Hello all, I am considering a change of tow vehicles from a Tahoe, over kill to a Toyota Rav4 from an eight to a six. The towing capacity of the Rav4 is 3500 lbs. The Casita is a 16' and weights around 2500 loaded. Like many of you I am trying to save gas. The Tahoe is almost 6yrs old and is a real lemon.costing 600 to 800 a year in repairs. My question is ,am I going too small ? Is anyone towing with a Rav4 or about the same size?

There was another thread that was quite long discussing Tow Vehicles requirements. Seems like there are two camps - get a TV that is over kill, but can handle towing in hills at posted speed limits; or get a TV that 95% of the time is the right rig and then you just stay in the slow lane on the hills.

I think you would fall into the latter camp with the RAV 4.

We just got our 17' escape(loaded at about 2800lbs) and pull with a 99ford explorer sport(V6 SHOC).
It does great on flat and slight inclines, but in the coastal hills in Oregon we just got used to going over the top at 45mph in a lower gear.

We just downsized as well, went from a Tundra ( except for the mileage I'm going to miss that baby) to an 05 Odyssey, we had to equip the Ody with a tranny & a power steering cooler as well as a WDH (we chose the single bar). Being as how wiring shocks me, I'm having that done on Monday. I can handle the mechanical end. Every one I talked to seems to think I'll be ok, and we're in no hurry anyway
