Tow Vehicle for Bigfoot Model 25B25RQ

I am looking at a 2007 Bigfoot Model 25B25RQ and would like to know what owners of this trailer are using as a tow vehicle. I have a 2013 Toyota Tundra CrewMax 4x4, with the 5.7 liter engine and a tow package, and I want to make sure it will handle this trailer. Any advice you can provide would be appreciated.

Looks like about 1400# tongue weight and 7800# total weight for BF 25 foot. You can compare that to the Toyota's tow ratings, which appear to be 10,400# max.

Check your owners manual for the tow ratings to be absolutely sure.

I think you can tow most anything with that big truck.

I tow my 2007 25ft. bigfoot with a 2011 tundra 4x4 dble cab with the 5.7 engine, p3 brake controler and reese pro series hitch. I have had no problems with power, braking, or sway. The tundra will run out of payload rather quickly but I have had no issues towing this trailer for about 3000 miles. I consider them to be well matched.

I am towing my 25 with a Ford F-150 with 5.4 engine. I am well within the towing capacity for this truck, but will probably get an F-250 when I replace it. The guy that sold me the trailer was towing with a Toyota Tundra and said he had no issues with that truck.

With 1400 pounds of tongue weight, you are at max pay load (1455#). Can't put anything in the bed or a cap without exceeding the limits.

If I remember correctly, my loaded trailer weight was around 5500 lbs and the tongue weight was around 600 lbs.

My Bigfoot 25RQ fully loaded (lots of personal belongings, fresh water full, waste tanks empty) weighed 6580 lbs. The tongue weight was 920 lbs. I weighed it both hooked up and unhooked at a truck stop scale. I pull it easily with an F-150 with the "max tow package" I did this post about a year ago:

If you get 1400 lbs of tongue weight something is wrong.

They're not alternate sources of the same information. Bigfoot is telling us what it weighs empty, and Frederick's list shows what one specific owner loaded his up to. Both are useful information, since (as Bruce and Derek have demonstrated), every owner makes different equipment and loading choices.

It would be nice if Bruce and Derek's numbers were added to Frederick's list, so there would be three 25B25's in the list instead of one, showing the range of possibilities.

I pull the same trailer (04) with a Nissan Titan with tow specs less than what your Tundra offers. I set it up with a Reese SC hitch that includes weight distribution and sway control. A truck scale showed trailer, passengers and truck came in at about 12,300 well below the 15,100 GVW rating. The truck pulls with plenty of power and never any sway. Mileage is around 11. Your Tundra should better these numbers.

When I hooked up the trailer without weight distribution the rear of the truck squatted about 3 inches. I adjusted the head angle of the hitch (increased spring tension) to bring squat into about 1 inch. I then installed air springs to pick up the 1 inch and bring me level. It takes about 40 psi each side. Truck and trailer ride level and secure.

Bigfoot advertizes their weights without anything on them. Mine has a delivery sheet showing the weight of the options, many of these I consider standard. They even added 3 pounds for the mattress! All totaled, the trailer weighed 5,250 lbs from the factory dry. I tow with empty tanks and water heater at a little over 6,000 pounds.

My 2009 BF25B25RQ is 6500lbs plus with full f/w water tank and gear for 3 months south.....hitch weight is 1200lbs...(have 2x30lbs propane and 2x6v deep cycle batteries on a-frame)....tow with GMC Duramax 3500 4x4 srw long box... Reece WD hitch with 1200lbs bars....carry everything but the kitchen sink in the truck bed with no weight concerns....tows like a dream ( 4 years x 3000 mi plus per round trip)

Looking at possibly purchasing a new 25B24RQ. How much do you think having the optional front cargo storage bin affects the base tongue weight since it looks like they extend the frame 2 feet?


I will tow with a 2010 2wd Toyota Tundra Double Cab.

Hi Kelvin,

Due to the basic physics of levers, lengthening tongue or frame in front of the trailer axles without changing anything else will put LESS weight on the hitch ball. It will also make the trailer MUCH MORE STABLE when towing at highway speeds. That being said that cargo compartment is not a good place to carry a lot of very heavy items. Each 100 lbs you put in that tool box will add almost that much weight to the hitch ball. You have some leeway but you could easily get too much weight on the hitch that way.

I only plan to put Lynx leveling blocks, water hoses, 25' 30amp extension, folding aluminum table, that sort of stuff. I'd like to carry a couple of folding recliners but don't know if they will fit through the hatches.
