Tow Vehicle Rental

I am trying to downsize as well as be more green and it occured to me that having a vehicle whose sole purpose is to tow my Burro is very expensive. I only tow maybe 6 times a year and I could maintain a cheaper car for my personal use and then go rent something when I want to tow the Burro.

I looked at Enterprise and their policy says no towing with their cars. Has anyone heard of any other rental company that allows towing? Any other suggestions how to rent one just when needed?

On a serious note Nancy, my wife and I take a "leave the kids with Grandma" and split for a week every summer in the mobile time share egg. We're kickin around comin up to the Payson area, you got any room at the inn the week around the 9th of June?

You might be able to rent a UHaul truck to tow your trailer, but it would likely be expensive.

Consider finding a friend with a truck or van and offer to rent it. You could contribute a receiver hitch, wiring and brake controller.

An alternative is carefully buying a used truck and then selling it. I know a guy whose family would buy a large used car and all pile in for vacation and then sell it when they got back. A lot depends on your negotiating skills, of course, or you might come out on the wrong ends of the deals.

You might be able to rent a UHaul truck to tow your trailer...

I looked into this before I bought my Honda Odyssey. UHaul only allows their trucks to tow UHaul cargo trailers and UHaul tow dollies.

This is something I was thinking about too! We are looking for a new car to replace our Toyota truck and because it has to be a TV we are looking at V6 models. If we could just rent a TV for our longer trips we could stick with our beater truck and get a nice 4cyl CUV. Ah well, you can't have it all.

I ran into having to rent a TV last year (Had to have the bedspace to haul stuff as well as tow) and I ran into the same thing, seems that most car rental places do not want you to tow. However, after the rental agent said told me that, he also said that if the renter were to actually tow while they had the vehicle, there's nothing the company could do to stop them. Now in my town Budget and Enterprise are right across the parking lot from each other, so I just looked at what vehicles they each had to offer.
Enterprise Pickups-No receiver hitches or trailer plugs.
Budget Pickups-HAD receiver hitches AND trailer plugs.
SO I rented a truck from Budget (DUH!) It towed my little Compact great, and the trip went well. I just didn't drive by the Budget office with the trailer behind the truck or anything...hehe

The problem with that is it very well would void all insurance, both yours and the rental companies. So as long as nothing happens you'd be ok, but if an accident happened you'd be "up the proverbial creek."
