Scamp and Tundra issues
Anyone out there towing a Scamp 19 fifth wheel with a Toyota Tundra crew cab 4x4?
We have not purchased either yet, because we are still in research mode.
My husband likes the big Tundra. I saw something about raising the hitch?
Does this increase the exterior height of the Scamp?
Our big issue is that our garage door is ten feet high, and we want to fit the Scamp into the garage.
Any suggestions and info will be greatly appreciated.

Check the height of the side walls of truck and the length of the trailer hitch neck to see if it will work. The Scamp are intended for smaller trucks.

Having never owner a fifth wheel, I can only assume that the trailer should be oriented level or front slightly down to avoid sway like any other trailer. If that's the case then raising the hitch to clear the bed must be countered by a spacer at the axle. Correct? Raz

Yes, it's raised by adding a frame rail under the current one. Scamp sold me all the pieces along with my new axle.
It went from this:
To this (new axle plus 3" frame rail):
I probably should have added the 1.5" spacers they sent as well, but it tows like a dream, and will level out if the pickup is loaded, so no big deal.

It's the same trailer. (Then again, not really)
It's been completely redone top to bottom, front to back.

I should have said more in my last post. I noticed it was different and sent the note on and hit the send button before I was ready. It was a very good refurbish job and probably took a long time to due. nice Job. Sorry for my rapid button pushing . Nice Job

I tow with a Tundra and she is the big one. I hate it when the guys with their big rig stickies belittle the Tundra but they sure will be looking at my trailer lights.

Does anyone know if Scamp offers their lift kit in their parts store, or by special order? I can't seem to find it on their website. I've seen many folks on this forum indicate they got a "factory" lift, and have PM'd several as well that also indicated as such. My understanding is that you may have the ability to order it new that way, but I need to retrofit mine. I've got a 2008 Scamp 5er and a 2004 Nissan Titan 4x4. From my measurements I need around 6 inches of lift. 3 to clear my bed rails and maybe another two or three at least to provide some breathing room when towing on non-level grade.
Thoughts?

Just call them. They sent me the pieces cut to the perfect length when I got my axle from them. IIRC, it was $60ish.
They send a 3" rectangular tubing spacer for each side, a crossmember, and two 1.5" square solid spacers. I didn't put the 1.5" ones in, and wish I had. I have plenty of clearance, but it sits high in front.

Jared,
So if I am understanding correctly, the factory lift would give a total of 4.5" of lift with the spacers and the tubing? When you added yours, what height did you get from ground to the bottom of the fiberglass on the overhang? I need approximately 56" to clear the bed rails.

What do you mean when you say it "sits high in front"?

He means the 5th wheel floor slopes up-hill toward the tow vehicle when it's hitched. It should be towed somewhere close to level.

Correct, 4.5" of lift. I didn't measure to the ground. I can, but not until Monday at best. I also have a new axle and 225/75/15 tires. I have about 9" of clearance to the bed.

What Peter said. See the picture on the second page. The only reason it doesn't bother me much, is because the pickup still sits so high in the back. If the pickup and trailer were weighted down, they would both level out at the same time.
