Towing a Scamp 19 ft with a Toyota Tundra

How many people out there tow a Scamp 5th wheel with a Toyota Tundra. I am considering purchasing a 2003 Tundra to tow a Scamp 5th wheel. What are the modifications, if any, that I should consider. Will I have to raise the 5th wheel to clear the truck bed side wall? It measures about 51 1/2 inches to 52 inches. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I'm also in the market for a new TV and have looked at the older Tundra. Sadly the new Fords, Dodges, & Tundras have very high rail heigths on the beds. The Tocoma is about the only new truck that I have found that I could use without make changes to the axle on the trailer.

My 2006 Chevy P/U has rail heights of 51" at the tail gate, so figure that I can go to 52" without modifing the trailer heigth. I currently have about 10" clearance between the bed rails and the skirt of the forward part of my trailer. I don't want to go any less clearance as there are time that the bed rails and fiberglass are very close.

Hi Steve thanks for getting back with me. Do you have a full size pickup? If so what is the length of the bed? I have my eye on a 2003 Tundra and the bed height is 51" or so. Do not know if this is going to work,but if yours is a regular Scamp fiver with out it being raised this gives me hope.

We pull with a 2007 Tundra. Scamp put 3" risers to get over the rails.

Frank I have 3" raise on my axles and it is the 5er deluxe. Mt truck is a 2006 Chevy, V-6, 282hp., and the bed is 6"3" in length. With the old style of Scamp hitch I'm able to slide a 6" table under the hitch and still have room forward of the hitch rail to carry a tote with misc stuff, as well as a couple of folding chairs. I like the bed size, and my hitch is directly over the truck axle.

A few years back, I had a 19' Deluxe Scamp, which I pulled with a 2003 V8 Toyota Tundra. I have Timbren overloads on the Tundra. The older Scamps had 13" wheels. I changed the wheels to 14" and raised the axle 3". This was one of the best towing combinations I have had.

I have a 3" lift and 225/75/15's on mine, and it fits my Nissan Titan well.

I posted on other threads about how well the combination of the Tacoma and Scamp 19 tows. I think the same would be true for a Ranger, Canyon, Colorado, Frontier, and whatever the Dodge small/mid size was called. The Tundra should be fine, pulling it with a lot of margin. Read the specs carefully, the height of bed and sides matter. There is a number for the minimum distance from the ball to the bumper corner, but if you are within a couple of inches from the rear axle, forward or back, you should be OK.

I don't know but a call to Scamp should get the answer. I imagine they do it or have arrangements with a shop close by.

I'm sure scamp will, or any competent shop can. It should be 2-4" ahead of the rear axle.

I have a 2010 Scamp 19 that I pull with A 2006 Tundra 4 wh dr, the Scamp has A three inch lift & 15in wheels the distance from the bed rails to the camper is six & seven eights inches, mpg on the Tundra is 14 -16. The camper is level when towing.
