Towing from the Scamp Camp

As I posted earlier I visited Sebring Florida's Scamp Camp today. We generally look around for the different at these events. Two towing stories caught our eye.

One new RVer towing a Scmp 13 was towing with a Honda Pilot after being told that you should only tow a trailer up to 50% of the tow vehicle's capacity.... i.e. with a Honda Pilot that means a 1750 pound trailer, he certainly has no trouble towing his Scamp.

A second guy who tows dirt roads in the Appalachians off the Blue Ridge Mountains has Honda Fit towing a 13 foot Love Bug. Like the couple with the Honda Pilot he has no trouble towing his Love Bug with his manual transmission Honda Fit.

The wife of the Log Bug couple had given her trailer a beautiful two tone paint job. As well this clever woman had cleverly fixed the bowed door on her Love Bug by creating a fold out table that attaches to the door re-establishing the curve of the door. If anyone has a 'flattened door' on their rig, let me know and I'll post pictures.

Curiously the Pilot FWD is only rated for 2000# while the 4x4 is rated for 4500#.

Tom,

I noticed the 2013 Pilots are rated that way in the USA. It seems they used to be rated for 3500#s.

It is curious. I'm not sure if it is driven by SAE J2807 or the marketing department.

Stacy,

This person made a fold down table attached to the back of the door with a storage space below.

The curve of the side pieces matches the desired curve for the door. Bolts top and bottom go thru the front side of the door and pull the bottom of the door to the shape of the "legs".

If you need more info PM me.

That looks great! Thank you so much for the photo. I saved it because the old one I get in March seems to have that situation. Even if not, love it! Thx

If you're at the Scamp Camp this is one interesting couple. Kathy was very talented. She straightened out the door cleverly adding a little table she uses for the computer. As well she painted their Love Bug and plans to repaint it to match their two tow vehicles.

Rvers are clever.

Norm, do you have a picture of the outside of the door? I'd like to see how the exterior looks.

I did not take a picture of the front side. It was not as pretty with four bolt heads. However she was using them to reshape the door.

I think if you were just atempting to just hang the folding table there maybe a more attractive method.

I am returning to the rally in the morning to meet some other folks and will get more pictures.

Went to the Scamp Camp unfortunately the front side picture of tje door did not come out. Operator error I'm sure. Ginny says the phone's smarter than us.

Regardless thet put two bolts thru the front of the door with big washhers and tightened them bringing the side pieces against the mid section of the door

They then put two identical bolts thru the lower section. Tightening these bolts forced the lower section of the door to conform to the shape of the desk's side pieces. This made the door fit perfectly.

Their trailer is gray and white. They plan to re-paint it toblack and red and re-do the bolts more attractively. It appears that the little (very talented) woman also does some fiberglass repair.

If we get over again I"ll get a picture.

Thanks Norm. We missed you two at the Quartzsite gathering last weekend. We did get to see BAMA's Lil Snoozy, and are thinking that will be our next trailer.
May the wind always be at your back, and the road smooth.

Dave and Paula,

We plan to be out your way on our 6th loop of the USA. Maybe we'll get a chance to see you again.

We did see our first Parkliner and really liked it. Have not seen a Snoozy, thought the company might have one at the Scamp Camp.
