just bought a 1995 Astro!

Private sale: Original owner, daughter inherited from mother last year, she's leaving the country - sold her house and belongings - Van is in immaculate condition - only 106, 000 KM (that's about 60,000 miles) has tow package, though it was never used

Question: Tekonsha voyageur brake control is installed - apparently interfaces with braking system of trailer (or van?) not sure, any ideas?

I just answered my own question (above). Found an oline manual for the Tekonsha Voyager braking system:

http://www.marksrv.com/9030manual.htm

Now my question is: is this unit any good. Is a prodigy much better?

Towing

Hi Lenny...Just thought that I would let you know the my 13' Boler scales out at 1464 Lbs. (over 500 more than it`s selling advertised weight). Also I tow with a full size GMC pickup and have no problems with high speed highways or stopping, etc. The problems that you may have with small vehicles is panic stops and collision avoidance maneouvers. I get about 16 mpg US gallon towing at about 70 Mph. The full size conversion van sounds like a good bet. Very comfortable driving. Good luck, Benny

I'll definitely try the Voyager brake control prior to changing - sounds like it may do the job just fine. Still need a trailer, so talk of upgrading is premature!

As for the conversion, it was in rough shape so I opted for the *newer* Astro- the v6 4.3 of the Astro is plenty, and allows my better half to use it for short distances without gassing up like crazy- as would be the case with a v8 5.7. I plan on adding an extra battery for use at the campsite (hooked up to the main battery with a relay in between), blinds for the tinted windows and an emergency crash mattress :zz
thanks again for your feedback - very helpful to a newbie like myself
