Towing w/ a Jeep?

Anyone on here use a Jeep to tow your camper?

I recently bought a Jeep but have not taken it on a trip.

Hi Matt, What model/engine do you have, I've been thinking about getting another tug myself?

What's the tow rating on it?

I know there is a man that tows with one, we met him at one of the Quartzsite gatherings... I think it was the 4 door.

I think you may have the same engine as mine, 3.7L and your tow is 3000 lbs I'm not mistaken,if you have the factory tow.
Your owners manual is a good beginning.

A guy here towed a 17 foot oliver all over the country with his 4 door. But has since sold it. I think his was a 3500 tow rating.

I tow with a '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado with a 4.0 straight 6, automatic transmission, all-time all-wheel drive. According to the owner's manual the max tow capacity with these is 4,500 lbs. Reading the fine print and deducting accordingly my specific truck tows & carries 3,500 pounds. The weight of people and items in the vehicle must then be subtracted from this figure to know how much can be towed. In addition, I leave a good margin between the final figure and what we actually tow. I think the Wrangler tows much less than the Cherokee.

Yes, I tow with a Liberty, it has the highest Jeep rating - 5000 lbs. The Wrangler is 3-3500 lbs due to it's frame and wheelbase, although it has the same engine as my Liberty.

No the highest Jeep rating goes to the V8 Grand Cherokee. My '95 4x4 was rated at 6500lbs. The non 4X4s were rated even higher.

I have been towing with my 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ for years now from my boat, utility trailer and now our 1973 boler. I have the 4.0L inline 6 cylinder and have no problems towing the boler with it. As a previous poster mentioned watch your braking and distance between other vehicles that goes with any type of vehicle. Double check you manual for your specific towing capacity but I am sure you are rated just fine for the boler. I run 32" tires on my jeep as well and hills are not an issue what so ever. Hope this helps. Good luck....

I bet the Honda with its low center of gravity felt more stable than the Jeep, right?

I also tow with our 2004 subaru impreza but would have to say I would rather use the jeep any day for power and braking. Center of gravity does not matter much.

We just bought a Jeep Liberty CRD to tow with. It's rated at 5000lbs and did a great job. Our one and only towing trip w it (so far) got us 21 mpg.

Anyone have any experience towing with a Jeep Compass? Tow rating of 2000. Looking to get a Scamp 13, with the bunks/sofa option. Thanks.
