Towing with Chevey Tracker????? Help!
I have a 2004 Chevy tracker it has a trany cooler. The book says 1500 lbs. I am asuming that is for a trailer without brakes. I have found a 16ft. Scamp with the side bath that is in my price range. Do I dare buy it and try to tow it with my Tracker?
Thanks!
Jason

I wouldn't do it. Maybe you can trade for a little bigger vehicle.

No, that's 1500lbs period. From what I've heard about those, even at that weight, you might leave some racing stripes on the seat, and I sure as hell wouldn't pull one without brakes. I can tell an empty 2000 lb car trailer is behind my 1/2 ton pickup (brake wires were cut after an accident), no way I would try it with that.

My 16' sidebath Scamp weighs 2250# for three days camping... as a single. That's no water in any tank and half-tank of propane. I tow with a Ford F-150.

If the campers a good deal buy it they don't come around all that often. After you have the camper then beef up your tow rig!

Unfortunately, this is also my recommendation. It's just my opinion, but I wouldn't want to be towing a camper very often with a tracker.

I've owned a GEO/Chevy Tracker. Good car to be a toad behind a motorhome.
I'd tow a motorcycle tent trailer with it. Maybe a Compact Jr.
Nothing bigger than that.

Nor would I, but, by the time you sort out the tow rig the camper will be gone. You snooze you lose!

Thanks!

I agree, if Chevy sez 1500 lbs that would be pushing it and you can't get a 13' Scamp under 1500 lbs ready to go, much less a 16'er.
We tried to tow our 24' airstream many years ago with a first generation Bronco. It was within Ford's towing specs, but it was the tail wagging the dog. We traded it in on a Blazer, a much better choice.

Hey Kirk, just unlock your front hubs and throw it in low range..that way you can tow 3000lbs
