Jeep has the new small SUV out now, hand anyone tried towing with one of these yet.. They are rated at 2000 pounds per spec..

Don't know about that model. We just finished a 5700 mile trip towing our 17' Casita Liberty Deluxe with our 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude with the towing package. No problems whatsoever even going up to 11,000 feet elevation. Averaged 20.7 miles per gallon. The Cherokee is awesome towing, no power issues and we were very pleased with the mileage. This was our first trip towing with the Jeep.

You certainly have the Latitude model Cherokee 4WD.

When we looked for a new towing vehicle for the HC1 we wanted something small ,fun and with a 2000 pound towing capacity, we narrowed it down to the renagade and the Mini Cooper countryman . Both seemed very capable and within our budget . After road testing and much thought we went with the countryman but I think the renagade would of also been a good choice

We have the same vehicle. Two years of towing ( over 15000 miles) and we get around 18-20 mpg depending on conditions.

This is excellent Sid.
This summer we drove 2278 miles and 17.65 mpg / US, not tow and tow combined, our Journey and Bigfoot 17 feet, the weight of 3000 pounds fully loaded.

I don't know about the Jeeps listed above, but I have a rented Jeep Patriot while my VW TDI is in the shop to fix a little parking lot scrape and it is a weak sister if I ever saw one.
It is rated to tow 1000 lbs, but it does good just to move itself.
I consider it to be a hazard to itself and others on the road the acceleration is so low.
My old Prius was much better than this thing.

I confess I do not know the capabilities of the Renagade or the Patriot. I got the Cherokee for its 4500 pound towing capacity and the 9 speed transmission.
I have not been disappointed and would gladly make the same purchase again as a tow vehicle and Vic,s daily driver.

Nor do I, but I do know the Renegade is a brand new ground-up design, while the Patriot is an old design with an even older drivetrain. I wouldn't make any decision about one based on the other. It's actually a pity about the Patriot. I always thought it was an attractive vehicle in search of a better drivetrain. I will confess to being a bit ambivalent about the styling of the new Cherokee and Renegade. But then, I didn't buy my Pilot for its looks, either.

I have no recent experience with Jeeps, but the 2015 Patriot has less power and acceleration than my 1959 Jeep Overland wagon.
I was disappointed with it. My thought is that it would make a poor tow vehicle although it handles fairly well and is fairly comfortable. I have no idea on fuel economy yet.

Looks like no one here has direct experience with the Renegade, unfortunately. It was worth asking... one never knows.

I believe that standard 2.4L in the Cherokee is the optional larger engine in the Renegade. But the Renegade is about 500 lbs lighter, which helps. 180 HP, 175 lb-ft torque. Chances are, you could tow a 13' Scamp or Casita and be ok, at least at the lower elevations; the Rocky Mountains could pose a problem, though.

Long ago I towed a 13' egg from MI to Colorado Springs and back, with a 2.2L 4 cyl Dodge Omni. Less than 100 HP, IIRC. It could only exceed 50 mph on the downhills. Pretty weak in comparison. If you're not in any hurry, the Renegade should do the job in the flatlands. Climbing long grades might bog it down some.

I pull my 2013 scamp 16' with a 2012 Jeep 4 door Wrangler. It's rated at 3500# and does a good job. When your loaded with your gear and pulling the camper up hills it best to stay in the right lane and put on your hazard lights for safety. I would rather have a higher tow rating than be maxed out.

I'm not sure on towing with those new Jeep Renegades. I've had quite a few Grand Cherokees in the past, but didn't pull more than a pop up.

Just picked up an 89 Islander over the summer, but that's a handful on the highway and gets driven to our camper..lol
