Belated update: I got my replacement P2 and after a couple of thousand miles of towing so far this one has no issues.

The difference with working brakes is remarkable - even though the TV is 6000 lbs and the trailer is about 1500 lbs. Now it feels like one vehicle when stopping rather than TV and trailer. It almost feels that it stops faster while towing than the van does unhitched.

The P2 works flawlessly once adjusted, and without the predicted lockup issues I was warned about.

I had to get a new axle on my 13' boler. I figured that since I was doing it anyways, I may as well get one with brakes. So many people here swear by them, but I've yet to see one person swear at them. Well the axle is installed, but I still have to get the brake controller. From what i've seen here I'm going to look for the prodigy.

Does the boler need brakes? Well not really, but I'm looking into a trip down to Bella Coola this summer or next. It's a dirt road with hill grades of 18%, and dozens of switchbacks for countless km's. The road literally goes from mountain top to sea level. So I'm my case, yes the Boler needs brakes! I can't wait to see how much of a difference it makes.
