Travel Trailer Tow Calculator

It seems there are many people seeking advice on tow vehicles and if their selection is adequate for the task. I found this site that many may find helpful. Remember, safely towing your trailer is the first priority and not how small a tow you can use. The dog should be the right size for the tail.

VERY INTERESTING . I plugged in the numbers for my vehicle and the figure they calculate for maximum trailer weight is approx 50% of the vehicle's. manufacturers stated maximum trailer weight . 5000 lbs (4000 lbs if using recommended. safety margin of 20%) versus 10250 lbs. Either their numbers are very conservative or the vehicle manufacturer's numbers are extremely optimistic .

The best (and IMHO the only) source is the manufacturers specifications for the vehicle(s) being considered, and you have to have those to use the calculator.

How is mixing in all these values to modify those figures any better than using the mfg's original figures in the first place, and what is the creditability of the source of this calculator? Their disclaimers seem to list a whole lot of reasons to not use the results.

In Canada we say lbs. but the truth is the sticker on the Car for weight and max passenger cargo weight is in kg not lb.
Yet our older trailer weight is listed in lbs.
Just like we talk about mpg; but our cars are rated in L per 100 km
Canadian Gal is 4.5L so even that is not equal as US Gal is about 4L
Often do conversion when on this page to try to be more accurate when communicating info.

Everything should be done in the metric units. (K)Meters, kilograms, C temperatures. US shoots it's own foot living with gallons, miles and Fahrenheits and not adjusting to the big world.

120v power supply is one of the biggest mistakes. It leads to huge energy loss in electric wires comparing to 220v supply in Europe.
