Got a real surprise. I was checking under my trailer and the front tires on both sides of the trailer were badly worn. On the outside there was still substantial tread, but on the inside one was down to the steel rim of the tire and the other was almost there. This trailer is 1 year old and has dual axles. Any suggestions on what might be the cause? I know one could be a bent axle and the other worn bearings. This trailer has traveled about 8000 km.

If is 1 year old, you need to contact the manufacture immediately then when you get the Sorry it's out of warranty speech, contact GoodSam club and have them send a letter to them. GoodSam gets action (Action Line) because they print this stuff in their monthly magazine. That is just 1 reason to belong to GoodSam and there are many more.

I would guess tha the axle is either bent or out of alignment. Bearings going bad on both sides at the same time sounds remote however it could happen. Jack it up and rotate the wheel. If you have a bad bearing you should be able to detect it.

This trailer is a Bigfoot and with the company folding in 2008 there is no warrantee. However I do have mechanical with First Canadian so I shouldn't be all out of pocket with what it costs to correct.

That helped. What I have is 'side wear' in the extreme and it wouldn't have been caused by overloading
or uneven loading as I travel with all my tanks empty.

UPDATE

Took my trailer into Standdons this morning. Got a call and of course the front axle was bent. No problem to straighten however this is what I was told. The trailer weighs 5000 lbs dry and the axles are rated for 7000 lbs. While I never drive with loaded tanks I do have all the other camping traveling equipment in it and I am near maxing out the axles. The trailer is one year old. I was told I would probably need an axle alignment every year and including tire wear a new set of tires maybe every year. That would cost somewhere around $600 all in. Option...change out the axles to a higher rating. These are custom from Standdons and cost $700 and at a 6000 lb rating for each I probably would never need an alighment again. I told Standdons to change them out and they credited the work on straightening out the existing axle.

Two things I've learned.
Standdons has always given me great upright service. Way to go guys!
Don't buy a trailer that is near maximum load dry or that will get you to maximum load wet. You will have problems.

If the camper c0mpany purchased off the shelf items from another company - to include the frame and/or axle then the other company may warranty their product seperately.

GoodSam and Camping World both sell insurance that covers orphan campers.
