Volvo V70

Has anyone used a Volvo V70 as a tow vehicle? I have a friend looking to tow mine but he's nervous that the literature in the vehicle says he can only tow #1,100 without brakes on the trailer, which I do not have.

I tow with a Volvo V70. For the last year, we have towed without brakes on the trailer, with NO DIFFICULTIES. DH is positive the brake requirement is strictly written in by predatory trial lawyers.

Yesterday, as he was towing it in to get the axle replaced (and brakes installed), he had to come to a hard stop on a steep downhill. He noted that the car handled it very well, no stress, no danger.

We're doing the brakes simply to be more than safe (and conform to the V70 safety standards).

That said, we're towing a Lil Bigfoot, 13' trailer. YMMV!

What trailer is he wanting to tow?

When's the last time you had the brakes on the Volvo serviced? If Volvo is anything like Toyota ( ) it isn't cheap. I'd rather wear out the trailer brakes. Much cheaper.

Glenn, from now on we'll have these honkin' 10" trailer brakes to slam.

Hubby, the former Volvo dealer, is on top of the Volvo service. No worries there!

(also, we have the most awesome independent Volvo service guy, our very own Volvo geek, who can do almost ANYTHING at a fraction of the dealer cost!)
