Yeah, you might want to recheck that payload figure against the sticker on your door jamb. Typical payloads for 3-row minivans and crossovers are generally in the 1300-1500# range. I've owned a Toyota Sienna and a Honda Pilot. Don't have access to the exact figures at the moment, but both were in that range.

Passengers/cargo and towing are a trade-off. My Pilot owner's manual has a chart that shows how tow rating and tongue weight rating decrease as you add more passengers or equivalent cargo. The full tow rating only allows for two 165# adults and no additional cargo.

Beware that "killer high capacity" hitch. It may well hang down so low that you will drag it on every dip and bump.

Thanks for pointing that out. The 8900 lb number I had stuck in my head is for total Sienna and trailer weight, GCWR. The door sticker says 5995 lbs GVWR, leaving ~1600 lbs for people and payload.

The Sienna manual leaves some flexibility for the driver to sort out how to simultaneously not exceed the GCWR, GVWR, and GAWR, pg. 212, and how to choose the hitch weight, pg 215.

This hitch is supposedly the one that doesn't hang down...

Something I noticed shopping for tires (we will carry a real spare and get away from the OEM run-flats) is that the Nokians have a load rating of 104, compared to 100 for the Michelins, Continentals, and etc. I put Nokians on a Civic a few years back and they were great tires.
