Can anyone tell me the funtion of the seperate 10ga yellow wire on a 4-7 pin adapter ? The 4 wire plug receptacle plugs into the Subaru harnees, the 10ga black goes to the battery for charging, the 10Ga white is a ground, the 10ga blue goes to the brake controller, but I don't know what to do with the 10ga yellow wire on the 4-7 pin adaptor. Should I leave this disconnected ?

The most common use for the yellow wire is to activate Back-up lights on the trailer. I had to dig into my Honda Odyssey's harness in the left quarter-panel to find the supply wire.

If your trailer does not have back-up lights, or you don't want to bother with them, leave it disconnected.

Umm, be careful using colors on trailer wiring because THEY DIFFER between connector types. Compare colors for 7-pin and 4-pin in this common chart:

http://www.marksrv.com/wiring.htm

You can see that yellow is Aux/Backup on the 7-pin, but is LeftTurn/Brakes on the 4-pin.

You can wire the 'yellow' as conventional backup, or put a special garden tractor flood lamp on trailer bumper as camp site backup (special switch in TV) or connect a sprayer to go with your "Follow Too Close and I'll Flush!" bumper sticker
