=================

Thanks Jim for watching this rally for me while we take a vacation.

We don't want to lose anyone and Jim does a terrific job of keeping our emergency roster up-to-date. The roster is never given out to anyone - it's for emergency purposes only. You can also post here that you reserved a space, but please, do not post any personal information on this thread.

If you make a reservation, a really helpful thing for us is for you to send us an email, by clicking on Jim's name on the left of his post above. . Include your home email, list the nights you will be staying, your campground & space number, pet (dog or cat) and the name, and your emergency phone number. Jim will contact you for the rest of the information that we need.

Thank you for working with us while I am away. You can ask Jim any questions that you might have.

Carol

Anyone know of a great cheap (one that is not 65 a night for no hook-ups) place to camp after we leave this event? We will be camping our way home over another week while we celebrate our anniversary. Any hidden away campgrounds not on the regular lists?

Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park
No hook-ups, a central water spigot to fill your fresh tank. Was $15 the last time I was there. It'll be more now, but I don't think as high as $65.

Heading north up 101 to meet 41 before heading over toward Fresno. I will check out your suggestion Fredrick and I heard about Jalama Beach too. I have heard that there is a casino in Santa Ynez that allows overnight parking but that is not where you really want to spend your anniversary night.

I am looking forward to seeing your new fridge Fredrick and finding out how you turn on the electric part of the water heater. We will bring our paperwork with us.

Jalama Beach is one of our favorite places anywhere; unfortunately we're not alone in that opinion and getting a site has gotten harder and harder over the years. At this point, most sites are by reservation although a few are still first-come-first-served. If you're lucky enough to score one of the sites on the sand (no hook-ups) you'll have a front row seat for magnificent sunsets, pelican fly overs and if you're really lucky porpoise shenanigans in your front yard. The hook-up sites are up on a bluff with $3M views (I'm a Realtor, must monetize all amenities ...), just a little hike down to the beach, but hellaciously and relentlessly windy if it happens to be windy. Well, it IS a world-class windsurfing and kiteboarding beach! Not cheap, but worth every penny in our book. And the burgers at the camp store draw diners from far and wide: we once saw a helicopter from Vandenburgh put down on the sand and the pilot picked up what looked like 2 dozen burgers and fries and took off again. And then there were the 4 CHP cars that cruised in together - keep in mind that this place is at least 15 miles off of Hwy 1 - and had lunch. But best of all is that every so often Vandenburgh launches a rocket, which is quite amazing to watch. Sheesh!! I may skip Lake Casitas and just keep driving!

Lake Casitas

Hi Linda and Nancy

Yes, I agree totally with Nancy. We love Jalama Beach and so do tons of others. Long and curvy road and it can be very windy up on the higher camp area.. but the view is great too. Nice place to go but "consider calling the park office a few days before you arrive and find out how busy the campground is. High or low demand for camp sites will affect which strategy you must use to get a spot." (805) 736-3504

I also just read "
Bookings can be made on-line now as well as reservations for specific spaces." Maybe you can reserve by phone too. Being able to reserve must be new for 2013.

Now Nancy, don't skip the rally for Jalama Beach.. You can still keep driving right up to Jalama - after the rally. It will still be a long drive to the campground and the wind will still be there for you. (Ha Ha)

See you all there in less than 2 weeks now.

Just a week to go, talk about cutting it close. My Burro is not finished as of today but hopefully by this weekend. Have to install diamond plate on the tongue, and then install the propane tank and battery box & battery. Oh and I need to install the linoleum flooring and a light over the sink. Hopefully my awning will get here Monday and my cushions will be completed by Tuesday. I’m bound and determined that we will be there Thursday. After all it’ll be the first time out with the Burro and our first ‘EGG’ rally. Looking forward to meeting everyone. Just watch for the dude on the mobility scooter.

Don't worry if it is finished! Just as long as it is safe to tow hook up and come. Inflatable mattresses work in a pinch.

Lake Casitas

Hi Gage

Like Liz said, just be safe while towing, and come to the rally. You can finish some of your projects after you return home, and just think, you will have had a break from work and had fun too.

We'll watch for you and your scooter.

I don't use the electric part of my water heater. The switch is broken on mine. Since Robert likes leaving the King Bed set up all the time, access to the switch is blocked, so we just use the water heater on propane.

It's "lets make a deal" time at Lake Casitas. Ann and I bought an Escape this year and have some goodies for sale: a 2" foam pad cut to fit a 17' Spirit ($15), slightly used DrawTite single bar WDH ($90 OBO), and a bunch of other goodies like inside light fixtures, LED clearance lights (new), and 2 Casita tail light lenses. See us in B10 arriving Tuesday.

For the most part the Burro is finished. Just needs a battery and propane and that’s not going to happen before this coming weekend. It’s sitting in the driveway waiting to be packed and hooked to the tow. We will be there Thursday and looking forward to meeting everyone in the SoCal egg world.
