CA | 2015, Death Valley in FEB/MAR

We are still planning to head that way next but have been delayed with the bat project here in Blythe, CA.

Are folks still in Furnace Creek?

We are afraid we may have missed everyone.

We hope to be able to head there Thu.

Sorry every one but we had to cancel our trip. We were working on our Burro pushing it to get it ready and it seemed that if it could go wrong it did for us. The last straw was the fuse pannel needs to be replaced.

We're in Sunset, near the campground hosts. Trailer is a 13' Scamp, pulled with a blue Dakota. We'll probably be here are another 2 to 3 weeks.

We'll be headed out West to CA end of May/beginning of June. Is Death Valley too hot those months to consider stopping a couple of days?

"Weather is too hot in summer for all but the hardiest of souls, with daytime highs topping 120°F and surface temperatures approaching twice that. The best months are December through February, when days are mild. Check the monthly Death Valley weather to get an idea of what things are like, on the average."

Yikes, just read about that weather. I'm not one of the "hardiest of souls" when it comes to heat. Guess I'll start researching Seqouia for my next stop after Las Vegas.

According to the NPS web site, many campgrounds close April 15 for the season, which indicates when it gets too hot to tolerate. We were there a few years ago the first week of May and were glad we were staying in Furnace Creek Ranch. As I recall, it was over 100 degrees so all our activities were in the morning when we could tolerate it.

We left Death Valley a couple days ago because it was getting too hot. We're now home in Oregon. Sunset campground closes the 15th of next month for the season. Check with the Death Valley National Park site. You might be able to get into the Furnace Creek campground with full hookups.
Better yet plan a trip in the winter. FYI 2 days is not even close to long enough to see the park.

Left furnace creek cg yesterday. Very nice cg host named Tom. Heads up, u can buy day pass for resort pool which has showers for 5 bucks. Had 2 very hot days but did a lot of exploring @ higher elevation. Up emigrant cyn was very cool. Saw wild horses. Also saw Scotty's castle & hiked ubehebe crater. Quite a place is Death Valley. Really enjoyed time in Joshua tree & fav was Mojave preserve.
