2015, July 17-19: Prince Edward Island

What are the dates for the rally at Prince Edward Island? My husband and I are planning a trip this summer and would like to to time it so we can be there for the rally.

If no one else responds, I see it on the 2015 rally map on Google. (Follow the "sticky" thread in this subforum.) If you click on the marker it should give you details. The version of browser our company uses doesn't work correctly so I can't see the details myself.

Looks like it's in July, 2015. Here's a direct link to the map:

We will be going to PEI this year as well to do geneology and visit old family in Mermaid. But not in July I am afraid.

Becky,

We went to the PEI rally held in Cornwall. It was held at the KOA in Cornwall. Really a good affair.

I suspect if you contact the KOA they will know the dates by now. As I recall there were about 50 rigs.

We arrived a week early and stayed at Linkletter Provincial Park near Summerside, PEI. I believe Summerside is the second or third largest community in PEI. The park is located on the water.

For those looking for Wifi, there's a library near the campground.

Hi everyone---actually, this meet rotates between Nova Scotia, PEI and NB. This year is NB's turn and it's being held in Shediac. July 17-19th.

This is their Facebook site:
Annual Maritime Vintage/Fiberglass Camper Meet

Shediac, NB another fine area, is not too far from the Confederation Bridge, to PEI, about 50 miles definitely a worthwhile side trip. The toll for the bridge was $50, pretty steep for a one way ride of 9 miles when returning from PEI. They take credit cards and cash.

Hmmmm.... That might be doable for us if we can plan on leaving PEI at about that same time. But still a bit late in the season for our return leg back to the left coast.

Pretty clever though, it's free to get there, but big $$$ to leave?

yup---big $ to leave.

however, one could travel to PEI via the car ferry and leave by way of the bridge and only pay once---it's on exit from the island regardless of which way one enters.

Shediac is a beach town. Boasts the warmest waters north of Virginia. Lots of lobster.

You only pay when you leave PEI. There's no charge to get on the island via the bridge.

I believe that's what I had written. One only pays on exiting the island. But some may not know that there are 2 ways to enter onto the island--by bridge and by the ferry. However, they are not in the same location. The bridge is near Borden and the ferry docks near Wood Islands.

It's $93 to take the ferry over or from PEI. It leaves from the Pictou area. We camp near the ferry landing on our way to Newfoundland.

I believe that both times that my Great-grandfather left PEI with the family (1891 & 1901) that he took the ferry because he couldn't afford the bridge fare.... LOL.....
Actually I think that the town of Mermaid paid him to leave the 2nd time (again) LOLOLOL It must have been by train because there is something mentioned in family Hx about a "Rail"

Maritime Railroads

Newfoundland had a railroad I believe until the 1960s before the road systems were created. Rail cars were brought from Nova Scotia by ferry. Unfortunately NL had a narrow gauge rail system requiring the axles to be changed on each rail car.

PEI also had a narrow gauge rail system until the 1970s. The National government gave PEI $200 million dollars for road construction, the railroad was closed down.
