2017, Aug.18-20: 3rd annual NE Egg Beaters Hudson River Ramble

Due to popular demand, the 3rd annual NE Egg Beaters Hudson River Ramble will be Friday August 18 through Sunday August 20, 2017. It will again be on my brother John and sister-in-law Nancy's spacious (and flat) Hudson River property just north of Albany NY. There is power for 12 or 13 campers (5 bucks/per night), kayak access, and a dock they keep their party barge at. There is no fee for camping, but there will be a $50 per egg fee that includes a number of meals, including Saturday and Sunday breakfasts and dinners, and maybe an ice cream social. Given decent weather, the fee also includes at least one ride (if not more) on their big pontoon boat down to the locks for those interested.

Anyone who has been to either the 2014 or 2015 rally can speak to the great time we've had.

John and Nancy are seving about 120 RV'ers for brunch today somewhere around Yuma, AZ, their winter headquarters. They have a lot of experience doing meals for RV'ers, and are set up for it.

We'll firm up any rally plans, address questions, etc. as John and Nancy return to their Hudson River property, maybe March or April.

Frank

Yes Jim, it is fun, thanks in large part to my brother John and sister-in-law Nancy! They are some of the finest hosts you might ever meet.

Yes, we still have our Parkliner. It's under its carport wrapped in a Calmark custom Sunbrella cover with the wheels and tires off for the season. This rally may be the only place it goes in 2017.

Your 21 would be fine for this rally. There is lots of room. We had a dual axle 5th wheel Escape the year before last.

Those of you attending for the first time and using GPS, beware, there are at least 2 other routes with similar address, it took me an extra 2 hours following my GPS and stopping twice to call and find out I was lost, there was a short cut for the return trip with less turns.

ask to speak to John or Nancy, they finally got me there, otherwise Frank maybe able to help. If my memory serves me there was a short distance you traveled on the NY Thruway which I was trying to avoid because of tolls, but it was free anyway for that portion traveled?

I would think Frank will provide that when needed. It is a nice residence, right on the river and they are gracious hosts, they provided all the meals for the weekend. You may be able to find the address in last years rally thread in the archives.

My gps got me there fine. I think it was Garmin at the time since I don't think I'd tried Googlemaps yet.
Note there was no rally in '16. The last one was in '15. And Jim's description of the hosts is spot on.
If everyone knew how nice this is, they'd quickly have to limit attendance.
So don't tell anyone.

Interested!

Please keep me posted. We live in NYS and would love to attend. Prefer an electric site if possible. We have a 16' Scamp and only taken "Cloud 9" out once so far, as we're new to camping. Let me know how to sign up!

Sorry for not paying attention. Besides being incredibly busy, I am fighting a bad cold.

I think John & Nancy's address is 725 Hudson River Road, but you need to make sure you're on the west side of the river.

Most people coming in are either on I90 coming north or I90 coming east. You would get off at Exit 23 and get on I787 going north. It goes through the City of Albany. You follow that all the way up to the last light and make sure you're in the right lane. You cross the bridge from Albany County to Saratoga County into Waterford, and you're on 32. A couple blocks into the village Waterford, you need to turn left to follow 4/32. There's signs, you can't miss it. Well, maybe you can, but that is the road John and Nancy live on.

John and Nancy are wonderful hosts. They have put on meals for groups of RV'ers (mostly motor homes) more than 100 times. There will be some charge for the food and entertainment, and power might run $7/night.

As soon as John and I get together and talk more, I just don't know, but figure maybe 50 bucks for the weekend: Start Friday night with hot dogs and hamburgers; then Saturday breakfast with eggs, sausage and bacon; Saturday dinner with steak, burnt onion gravy, mashed potatoes; ice cream social that night; then Sunday Breakfast with eggs, and french toast with 5 toppings to chose from. Bring musical instruments if you like, sit around the campfire and play some tunes. Watch boats go by on the Hudson River, and get on John & Nancy's big pontoon boat and go down through the locks into Waterford and return. There's also a kayak and canoe launch of their property, so bring car top water craft.

Any questions lemme know.

Frank

Other than getting lost, it was a nice place and the hosts were very nice. It was also nice not having to cook the entire weekend....

The more the merrier Ken!

I'm pretty sure the 12 or 13 outlets they have are at least good for 30 amp, but I would plan on 20. I will know more within a few months.

We'll prioritize who gets power by the order people post interest here in this thread. It seems to me the fairest way to do it. In the past, we've had folks who specifically did not want or need power too.

Frank

Sorry Frank - I was unclear .... Most of the campgrounds I have visited recently have switched from 30 to 50 Amp supply connections ( which is way, way, way,- over the top for my 13 ft Acorn/ Scamp ) So I was really asking what might be the amp plug required to hook into the supply .... which I presume might be a heavy duty extension cord or the like. I have passed through the area several times when taking my boat from Baltimore to Lake Champlain or across the Erie Canal ... and regard the Hudson as absolutely beautiful - I look forward to visiting it again.
Cordially, Ken

No problem Ken, I understand!

John has posts set up for motor homes, many with 50 amp service I believe. Usually where there's a 50 there's a 30, so it never hurts to have adapters that take you from 30 to 20 when you have an egg! We have one we use at home all the time, as I installed a 30 amp marine plug in our egg a few years back.
