2019 U.P. Michigan gathering 8/7-11/19

Hi all. Paula & I (from Arizona), along with JimP (from Illinois) will be in Lake Linden Village Campground near Torch Lake in the upper peninsula of Michigan, August 7th through the 11th, and would like to invite all interested to join us. The address is: Lake Linden Village Campground, 1050 Hiltunen St. Lake Linden Mi, 49945. Phone (906) 296-9911. This will be an informal gathering (no host), and as such, each person must register as an individual. I don’t know if this qualifies to be added to the Calendar Of Events or Rally Map, but if so, would a moderator please do so. We look forward to meeting new friends and perhaps catch up with old ones also.
Thanks
Dave & Paula

I just made our reservations, and will be in site 6. The person I spoke with said that there are 9 spots left out of 27. Hope to see you there.
Happy Trails

Could a moderator please add this to the upcoming calendar of events?
Thank you

Any idea if 8/7 -8/11 is the black fly or no see um season? Was in the UP a couple of seasons ago and it was just nasty with the critters. Never did figure out how to handle the situation. After about 10 day we gave up and went west.

Willing to put up with a few mosquitos and flies, just not at the height of their season.

Shucks. That's going to be a little bit late for me. I'll probably hit the UP in July sometime. I have to be back to work in mid-August.

Henry, I've been in the UP in summer many times and I have to say the biting flies are 'hit-and-miss,' but mostly 'miss' in my experience. Only once was I chased off a beach by them (within 2 minutes of arrival we were out of there!), and 20 miles down the road they weren't around so we got to camp with a nice view of Superior anyway.

We were in Lake Linden staying on Torch Lake last summer, 4th of July, to spread my mother’s ashes. The nighttime flies were horrific! The windows were almost solid black with flies coming for the interior lights. We ended up closing all the house windows every night. There was no AC in the house so we had to go buy fans.

We have a clam shelter with no see um screens, and I just ordered a Warrior Supreme tennis racquet style bug zapper from Amizon, that is claimed by another member here on this forum, to work on no-see-ums also. I didn’t see anyone complain about the critters on last years gathering though.

That is great to hear. Maybe we got unlucky. We were also there right after the massive flooding and mud slides so that probably contributed.

Mary F. Or another moderator, I don’t know if I have done something against the rules, but this thread keeps getting taken down. Could one of you please add it to the events calendar?

Mary F. Or other moderators, I finally figured out how to add this to the events calendar, so thank you, but never mind my request.

Blackfly season will be well past - they're just coming out now and should be gone in a few weeks. Never had any no-see-ums since I moved here in 1982. Mosquitoes are weather and habitat-dependent and the nasty biting flies are mostly at Lake Superior beaches and are also unpredictable.

Keweenaw Bob is right. I live in Lake Linden and the first black fly found me while launching my Kayak yesterday. I'll have to get my reservation in. I was in a hurry to get on the lake and didn't spray with tea tree oil mixed with water, clears the sinuses too.. Some say August is the best month here, but I like July.

Torch Lake

Since you are on the subject (for the most part), Wife, kids, and I want to go leisure boating on Torch Lake in July. We can't pull the camper, would anyone know a nice place to the north of Torch Lake to stay? Clean and air would be awesome!!

Thanks!

Finding Gathering

The only way I can find this gathering is to search for Lake Linden. It still isn't listed with all the other rallies. Why is it?

Heading to Lake Linden tomorrow (8/7 seven hour drive) without reservations. Wasn't sure if I could get away but the gods were on our side and it seems like a go. Will call in AM for reservations. May be up in the primative campground at this rate but no problem. Look forward to seeing Emb (met last year at Lake Linden and Algonac SP) and others.

Well, the truck was packed and Casita readied but an old military injury decided I should spend our travel day in the hospital ER. Today was not much better so we will have to stay put until we can get some issues addressed. We will try again next year!
