Texas Fun

We're at the Hillapalooza Rally in Texas with a lot of really friendly Texas folks. It's mostly Casitas with a sprinkling of Scamps, Bigfoots and an Oliver and an Escape. This is a well planned rally and we're loving it.

They have an even bigger rally they hold in October, their Blue Bonnett Rally in April.

Fun from the road,

Liking it more and more

Last night we had an arrival dinner of spicy tacos and beans. Both Ginny are really progressing in the amount of southwest, or should I say Texas Heat we can handle.

And of course a beautiful Texas Sunset.

Today we had breakfast Texas Waffles and Pancakes as pictured. Are there any other states with their own waffle makers?

As registration gifts they gave us a Texas Flashlight (a match o a twig) and a Hillbilly door (a thumbtack) bell, also pictured. A member does the Hillbilly themed postcard, a different one each year.

You have to love Texas, culturally they have an infectious Texas pride.

Happily in Texas,

Texas Magic

Breakfast today was a rally winner, but don't tell my doctor.

Today they made hot donuts for about 120 people.... certainly Texas magic that satisfied me -- 3 hot donuts and a few holes... yummy.

Blue Bonnet Cafe

Jane CS suggested we try the Blue Bonnet Cafe in Marble Falls, TX and happily we did. We had lunch and split a wonderful piece of coconut creme pie. The Blue Bonnet has been there since 1929 and is well worth a diversion from your route. Gt there early for lunch because the locals, deservingly so, over run the place.

Thanks Jane. Iff you're ever in FL go to the Depot on main Street in Arcadia. They are also a long time local place with great lunches and pies, only open for breakfast and lunch Mon-Fri. If you order their soup and sandwich special, only get the soup, you'll be overwhelmed. Their beef vegetable soup is like a Pot Roast in a bowl......

Any other Pie suggestion stops on our route?????

Hillapalooza Rally

If you're passing thru Texas when this rally is in process it is certainly worth your effort to attend. The rally was very well organized, everyone gave us marvelous Texas tips, an Texans are wonderful people, you can even see the pride in the people who've adopted Texas as their new homes.

Great Rally and thanks to Denise and Phil the rally organizers.

P.S. My praise has nothing to do with getting the silver medal in the Toilet Seat throwing contest (LOL)......

Norm and Ginny, You're bringing up memories for us. We used to stop at the Bluebonnet cafe on our frequent travels between Oklahoma City (where I used to work) and San Antonio, where we used to live (and 2 of our kids still do).
Our daughter showed us that TX waffle maker, she actually sells them at Mission Supply in San Antonio.
We certainly hope to make one of those rallies, and were almost ready to head for Bluebonnet this year except one of our kids (and Grandkids) in VA just found out they're heading for Korea this summer so Easter time frame will take us East instead of West.

Hillapalooza-Where is it held?

I'm guessing somewhere around LBJ? So, it's not a yearly gathering?
I live about an hour away and could assist when there is another one!
