Hi All!
Anyone coming the 41/46 route.....Be sure to stop at Jack Ranch Cafe , close to intersection of 41/46, it's the scene of James Deans infamous car crash n death. The cafe itself serves homemade burritos(huge) and pies(awesome) along with just plain ole good food!
When I traveled CA, it was one of favorite stops. Harris Ranch resturant off the I-5 near Coalinga, is way over rated now.
Looking forward to seeing ya'll soon!
Chuck
Hi Chuck, yea Jacks is a must stop. the chorizo and eggs are good also.

Hi Lora,

There will be about 58-60 attendees in camp on Saturday night. I suspect most will participate in the pot luck. We haven't taken a head count yet.

Just an abstract question for the group. After the camp out, we will have three or four days until we have to work in Concord. We have an "America the beautiful" that Gina helped us get. She also told us of a campground near her that we got for about $10 a night. So does anyone know of anywhere between the campground at Lake San Antonio and Concord that would be a good place to camp and a good deal too? I had someone mention Kirk creek or plaskett as posibles. Can I use reserve america and the pass too?

Gina, you always seem to know the best places to camp. Any suggestions?

Those are USFS campgrounds and your pass is good there.

I am no expert on the area, but have looked around.. looks like just about any of the forest service CGs are good there.

Hi All,

I just got prodded by Lori to re-visit this forum ;-) Sorry, I've been very distracted, largely unplugged, and doing little recreational surfing on the forum. Or anywhere else for that matter. Concetta and I have been looking forward to this rally. I've just not been very good at communicating. You'll understand when you hear my tale. Bring a bottle.

Lori, I just submitted payment via the donation form. I hope its not too late. I didn't see how to note the donation so it would be directed to you. I did add some detail in the comment field so I hope that works. Also, now that Concetta's seen our new toy she's very excited and told me she wants to take Monday off so we could stay an extra nite. So we'll be getting there Friday night (probably ~7:00'ish) and staying through Sunday night, leaving Monday. That's one more night than we were originally booked for. Hope that's OK.

BTW, I finally only pulled our 'new' 1977 Fiber Stream up from some San Diego last Saturday. Its been stuck in a shop in SD getting new brakes ever since I bought it some many weeks ago. Its still a bit rough (understatement) and I doubt we will have done much with it before the rally. We'll probably be lucky to have a decent bunk and maybe some of the lights working so we're definitely going to be the poor relations on this trip. But I'm bringing a camera and hope to take lots of pics and chat with lots of you about your trailers. This is our first trip in 'Valentine'. Heck, its our first trip with any kind of trailer. I know I can get it hooked to the car. And I feel pretty good about getting it to Lake San Antonio. But beyond that we're total rookies. No, we're worse than rookies. We're really hoping some of you can teach us some little stuff. Like how to get the white water into the sink. And the black water wherever its supposed to go. And how not to get them mixed up. Suggestions warmly appreciated. TIA.

happy trails, Lindsay & Concetta

Lindsay, I will be going thru Bakersfield on Friday morning, possibly even staying at the county park (Kern River) on thursday nite to break up my drive.

I would be happy to stop and help you with your hook up and travel with you to the Lake if you think that would be helpful.

I don't know if the timing works or nite, I plan on taking the day off on Friday and getting to the lake earlier than 7.

Hi Gina,

THANK YOU! Yes, I would love to meet you, chat a bit, have you look over our rigging and receive any other suggestions you might have. I'm sure that would help both Concetta and I feel a little more assured. Concetta teaches until about 4:00 and we'll leave Bfield shortly afterward. Which is why I figured we would get to the camp around 7'ish. It sounds like you'll be leaving Bfield before us but getting together earlier in the day would be helpful. Thanks so much.

It sounds like you know more about places to stay over in Bfield than we do. We'll probably be running around Thursday night trying to get our act together but please let me know if there is anything we can help you with in Bfield.

Also, we'd like to participate in the dutch oven cooking, the bar-b-que (if there is one) and any other happenings. Anybody know what we should bring for any of these activities? Like, what size/kind of dutch oven? Coals? Ingredients? etc? What are some of the items people are planning on baking? Bread, cinnamin rolls, cake, cobblers, pies? Its been a long time (read: decades) since we baked in a dutch oven but I have fond memories.

It just hit me. We go to all the trouble to haul lightweight fiberglass trailers. And then we fill 'em up with dutch ovens? Go figure.

Lindsay, send me a PM with your particulars. The only things I know for sure are that I will be in or going thru Bakersfield on friday am. I will go up the 99 to the 46 (Or is that the 41?) and over west from there.

I am not big on I-5, and I actually would prefer the drive up the 101, but don't want to fight the LA traffic in the morning to get there.

That would be Hwy 46.

One of the dishes I hope to make for one of the meals is a Mexican Lasagna. It has tortillas instead of noodles and looks very strange but it tastes so good. We haven't tried making it but when we tried it at a DOG it was so good we wanted to try to make it and have the receipe.

We are open for everything from movie night to DO cooking. We are looking forward to learning new things, meeting new people and seeing our old friends.

Gina, From some things mentioned in earlier posts, I'm thinking of taking 198. I hate construction, all those cones and dividers make me nervous even when I'm not towing. Shoot, I don't even like the slow lane on bridges! You might check 198 out.
