Looking for a place to camp!
Does anyone know of a nice quiet campground (not too expesive) somewhere along the Carolina coast (either NC or SC)? We have the campground directory on CD, but it is hard to choose a place without seeing (or hearing about) it first.
We found a great place to camp in Northern Alabama (sites were large and private, facilities were great. It was "Joe Wheeler State Park" which I'm sure some of you are familiar with. http://www.dcnr.state.al.us/parks/state_pa...s_index_1a.html
It would be nice to find out from others about good camping experiences.
Thanks again,
Adrian

Quiet Beach Campground
Edisto Island State Park in South Carolina is outstanding. Very quiet and remote right on the ocean. For more of a tourist type campground try Lakewood or Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach. These are on the ocean as well but not as quiet but still very nice. Just depends on what you are looking for!

Notes I've made
Adrian,
I can't recommend this campground directly, I've just made notes of recommendations made by others. I'm passing it along in hopes it will help.

My parents camp at this park in Myrtle Beach every year. They love it. It's right on the ocean and is very nice.

Huntington Beach SP
It is in a great location. Right on the water, very pretty. As I recall, they have clean showers and such. I was tent camping, so I don't know about hook-ups, but there were many snowbirds there. In the safety thread there is a story about the raccoons we encountered there! Big as elephants, they were! Serious skeeters too!
Very pretty. I'd recommend it.

Carolina coast camping
We enjoyed Hunting Island SP near Beaufort, SC. We had a site right on the beach, but found the rear area w/tent campers more enjoyable. You can bicycle on the beach (low tide) and 1/2 mile down the road is a great day park - Light house, bike trails, free internet hook up..

Hunting Island
Rick,
We were told by many people while we were camping at Edisto Island that Hunting island was a nice place to camp. I think next year we may try it. The only thing that bugs me is that you cannot make reservations. We had to camp in the overflow, a damp mosquito ridden swampside campground before we could wait in line to get a space on the main campground at Edisto. I would still return though. We had a great time and the beach is very quiet and un-developed.
Thanks for the advice everyone.
