LOONIES ONLY.....Thats what the sign in the newly reconstructed shower stalls now all say at The Fort campground in Fort Langley B.C. Canada.
....... http://www.fortcamping.com

We've reserved the sites #'s 1 through 22 with the exception of site #19 which is pre reserved (I guess??).

The Trailer Goddess and myself ('car people') are in site #9 for the weekend of Sept 14th/16th. Thats the Friday through Sunday.

Reservations are to be made through Craig (Dodge Boy) Breckenridge, (NOT THE CAMPGROUND) who will (I'm sure) sometime soon post more details, so ....STAY TUNED!!!

Note: this topic is a continuation of Fall Meet, Southwestern B.C..

Apropos of nothing Trailer-related:

What is a loonie? I know it's to do with money, but beyond that I'm ignorant.

From http://www.trailcanada.com/photos/wildlife-birds.asp:

Common Loon
Canada's national bird, the common loon is famous from its appearance on the millions of dollar coins. These coins are referred to as 'a loonie' from the bird pictured on the face.

The loon is a water bird slightly larger than a duck and can be found all over Canada.

an addendum...

a Loonie is a one dollar (Canadian) coin 'gold' in coloUr, and about the size of a 50 cent piece(?)
a TOONIE is a TWO dollar (Canadian) coin, silver in coloUr but with a small gold coloUred, sometimes removeable, center section.
....so, two loons = a TWOONIE or Toonie, (ONLY IN CANADA!!!)

Canada has long since rid itself of the one and two dollar paper monies opting instead to load our pockets with the much heavier metal money, so we RATTLE when we walk....LOL!!
I hear that the U.S. is planning to follow suit too!! ...... (Eaglettes)

Ahhh... I think the US went the other way years ago. Several attempts to make $1.00 coins have failed. We aint gonna accept a pocket full of metal, maybe plastic but not metal.

Ya, I'm aware that there's dollar coins, but they're not very well accepted. I haven't seen one in quite a while. I, like many others, spend the coin first to get it out of our pockets and ask for paper when ever a merchant trys to give me a dollar coin.

A little story about dollar coins that almost put me tears. Susan B. Anthony dollar coins look too much like quarters. I was working with 4-H kids when they came out. The director decided to give SBA dollars to the 4-H kids at the country fail, I handed them out. The carnies would take them, and tell the kids they quarters. Many kids got taken that way.

We get them a lot here in Portland. All the machines at the Max stations give out $1 coins as change. They used to be the Susan B. Anthony coins, now it's the gold Liberty dollars. I've got two of them in my wallet right now.

Well if you don't want 'em . . . . I'll take a million of 'em if you're giving them away!
cheers

Hey Byron....who said they were widely accepted even up here?

When something like that is rammed down you throat.....

I have also heard mutterings that Canada is going to stop using 1 cent (penny) coins. They don't seem to be worth a whole hill of beans anymore anyhow, but it'll sure give new meaning to the saying 'just my 2cents worth'

Hi Everyone,

Thanks Doug for gathering some interest in our little meet and spreading the word about our Loons...

The direct link to the site is:

http://members.shaw.ca/glass.eggs.th...mber_2007.html

All the contact details, rates etc. are there as well as the dwindling number of sites available. There will be another group beside us so we are limited in the number of sites available. I might be able to squeeze one or two more. We have sites 1 through 18, 20 and 22.

This will be our tenth meet.

Craig

Come On People...., only 2 spots left and we'd REALLY really like to NOT have to turn any unused sites back to the campground because then we'd prolly have stickies between our Eggs and you know what a combination THAT makes
