While attending the Pineknot Rally, we met some 'local' fellow fiberglassers. We have planned to meet at Matagorda Island RV Park December 8th, 9th and 10th. If would like to join us, you must make reservations through Texas Parks and Wildlife (512-389-8900 follow phone menu). Brand new park with full hook-ups, lighted piers (both river and gulf), kayaking, birding, FISHING and relaxing. There are no blocks of slots reserved, and there are no planned activities just come out enjoy the fellowship and have fun.

We were down at the Matagord Bay RV last week and had a great time! Here are some pictures of the new campground. The shower/office area is now complete and is very nice. We are looking forward to seeing some fellow FG campers. j&k

This time of year on the Texas Gulf Coast is a roll of the dice as far as weather goes. It was in the high 30's upon arrival but it easily could have been in the 70's. Upon arriving on Matagorda Island Friday 12/08/06 we were greeted by sleet which is very rare on the coastline. Never the less we had 10 units show up and we were pleasently surprised by having a Bigfoot there from Washington State that was just pasing through and read about our gathering. Friday evening we all got together for dinner and fellowship. Hopefully next year there will be a shelter and meeting place that we all can congregate in. The LCRA Matagorda Bay RV Park is a real nice and very clean.

You can see the Gulf just passed the building below.

I'm a little confused. Is Matagorda Bay RV park the same as Matagorda Island State Park? It seemed strange to go to the Texas State Park reservation site to reserve a spot at a non state park RV campground. I made reservations but don't know if I will be at the same site as all the others. I might just be having one of those senior moments that seem to be happening more frequently these days.

Drive safe,

Jim

The park belongs to the Lower Colorado River Authority. I assume they let TP&W handle the reservations.
