NorCal Gathering - Burney Falls - September 17-19, 2010

*** ANOTHER UPDATE***

Boy did we have a wild day here in the Central Valley!!! We lost power [at] 9:15 AM and it finally came back on at 2:30. And the RAIN. Hoo-boy!!

Anyway, here is the Burney Fall update.

I called the ranger station today -

the reservation system DOES INDEED cease the weekend before the Gathering.

When I asked if there was an alternative - it was the old good news / bad news.

Bad News - first come, first served is exactly what it sez. There are NO provisions for reservations.

Good News - after Labor Day weekend, the park **never** fills up. He said that a 1/2 full park would be a "good weekend".
He was pretty adamant - "there will be plenty of room. Come on up and have a great weekend".

SO... I suppose we take him at his word.

Here is what I propose....

I would be willing to act as "Registrar" for the Gathering. Michele and I will plan to arrive a day or two early and **maybe** with a firm list the ranger will let us kind of stake out some territory... But in any case, I am SURE it will work out

Hi Gang!
We are barely 7 weeks away from our Northern California Gathering at McArthur-Burney Falls, September 17-19. Bruce and Jeanie Wray (and the dog, Kizzie) are hoping to attend. I'm unable to fully commit right now -- but hope to be able to before summer. Anyway, it's on the calendar.

ooooh, it looks like a fabulous place... check out this YouTube Vid:

And, I noticed this over on the left:
"For several more pictures, please visit http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=burney+falls Teddy Roosevelt called it the "Eighth Wonder of the World". While it is definitely not the largest waterfall in California, ... "

Hello All IMHO Burney Falls is one of the MOST gorgeous spots in northern California. Haven't camped there (yet) but we made many day trips when my parents lived in the Redding area.

We don't know yet what Sept will bring, but we might be able to join in the weekend - time will tell. Take care and stay warm & DRY! L 'n D

Here is some additional park information for those who may be thinking about attending:

Thanks to you who are responding. Alan will be updating the attendance list as soon as he has WiFi capability.

About Burney Falls Campground: 128 campsites are listed. However, 24 of those sites are rental cabins; and another 15 listed as “tent only”. Handicapped sites 1,2,3 have electricity. 89 are available for RV’s with driveways listed as “back in” 32 foot length (that shouldn’t be a problem for any of us!). All sites are listed as partial shade. Camping fees are $30/night. There is a $2/night discount for Senior Citizens 62+.

Don’t have an RV and still want to join us? The park has 24 rental cabins in 2 sizes: 1 room (18 ft) - $71.50/night; or 2 room (24 ft) - $93.50/night. For more info go to the park’s brochure website: www.parks.ca.gov/pages/455/files/McArthurPDF.pdf

About the falls: Burney Creek originates from the park's underground springs and flows to Lake Britton, getting larger along the way to the majestic falls. Created over a million years ago, the layered, porous basalt retains rainwater and snow melt, which forms a large underground reservoir. The water emerges at and above Burney Falls, where it flows at 100 million gallons every day.

WiFi service is available. Access for this service is available within a 150 foot range base of the Snack Bar/Visitor Center.

I plan to arrive a couple days early. Several other people also plan to arrive early. So - - - come early, stay late!

- - Earl

btw: california has a "limited use golden bear pass" for $10.00 per year. over 62. it's for non-peak season, which would apply for this gathering.
Linda, did not see anything about being ca resident.

Thanks for your input. We look forward to seeing you there.

According to the California State Park website:
**The Limited Golden Bear pass is not valid for boat use, overnight camping, or trailer/camper facilities. It is not valid for commercial use or for supplemental fees, such as additional motor vehicles, sanitation disposal use, etc.
**The pass is non-transferable and non-refundable, and cannot be used in conjunction with any other pass and/or discount.

Hi all - Alan here.

We are on vacation - that is why I have been absent from this topic.

We are in Pahrump, NV with REALLY POOR I-net. | will arrange to get the lists updated some time after the weekend... HOPEFULLY the next place we stay will have better wi-fi.

Earl sez that there are probably a dozen or more + **up to** 30 including the "thinking about it" folks.

I know that September SEEMS a long time away, but before you know it, it WILL get here. And fast.

Just wanted to check in and let y'all know that it is ABSOLUTELY a "Go"....

Hi all – Alan here.

We are on vacation, currently in Pahrump, NV – which is why I have been away from the topic.

In an e-mail from Earl, he sez that there are more than a dozen for sure and up to 30 if you count all the “We're thinking about it” folks. So, ABSOLUTELY it is a go.

We have REALLY REALLY poop I-net where we are now, but if we get someplace better early to mid next week, I will work to get the lists posted –

For now, just wanted to touch bases and let folks know the status.

I know September SEEMS a long way off, but before you know it, spring WILL be here and then things will start moving fast.

Regards, Alan

Hi Bob and Janet:
Earl Arrants here. Alan and Michele are out Scamping somewhere between Arizona and Texas. They are planning on attending the Hill-a-Palooza in Johnson City Texas this weekend.

Anyway thanks for responding to our Northern California Burney Falls Gathering. We will be glad to see you there and hope your calendar works out. Isn't Alta up there by Angels Camp?
