Probably other sites like this would work too.

Aspen Crossing does look very interesting. It does have great group facilities too. I used to drive by where it is a couple times a week, but that was ages ago. It does look very new, but that does make for nice facilities. Not sure what all there is to do, but is definitely worth a look. Thanks for pointing it out.

Aspen Crossings looks interesting. definitly something to consider especially if we are looking at smaller numbers, group sites appear to have around 10-12 sites each

Kind of wondered about that place ... we've never really stayed anywhere this close to home .... thought about it as place to try out our new Escape last fall ( we only had a few days when we picked it up ) but just couldn't take the extra time .

That is close enough to me, that pretty much any weekend would work. We are in Ontario end of July to mid Aug. So, any time outside of that is good for me.

It might be worth a trip out at some time to check out this place, and others in the area.

It would be great to hear from others who have camped at some of the Southern Alberta campsites in the past.

Bridgeview

Jim;

I have stayed at a number of campgrounds in southern Alberta over the years. I would say most would not be suitable for a gathering (remote), but I did enjoy this one.

Thanks for that, Vic. I have driven by that one hordes of times before, but have never camped there. Even when we lived in Lethbridge, we headed out west into the forestry for camping.

A couple to consider now. If anyone else has other ideas, please feel free to throw them out there.

A big challenge with organizing an event like this in Southern Alberta is that many of the group camping areas have limited numbers of sites, especially when we have no idea how many may attend an initial event.

Looking at potential locations I came across Kinbrook Island Provincial Park. It is located near Brooks, about 2 hours east of Calgary or Highway #1. They have 3 group areas, the largest will accommodate up to 50 units. There is no power and vault toilets but a very short walk to the main campground gives access to flush toilets and showers.
Information & Facilities

This area is convenient for Calgary, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, even Saskatchewan, Montana and SE British Columbia.

If we were willing to go to a site without services, there are lots of good options. That list Shelley put up has lots of good ones, including Kinbrook.

There seems to be only a few folk posting to this thread, so it is hard to gauge the interest. I am not sure how we would get an idea on numbers, what type of sites they prefer, or location the would prefer. I imagine there are quite a few just waiting until something is decided, and then whether it works for them or not.

Maybe the thing to do is to just pick a site somewhere, book something, and see what interest there is. Whether it is 10 or a 100 units, we could still have good fun. From there, we could change up if needed, and see what input others might have.

I would be fine with no services myself, I am quite used to boondocking. Some kind of shelter would be needed to house a pot luck and general gathering, especially if the weather is not nice. Having local activities is nice too, as there is usually time to kill at these rallies, whether it be shopping, golfing, hiking, sightseeing, etc.

If there are others out there lurking and interested, it would be wonderful to hear from you, and get your input into things. I know we will never be able to fully satisfy everyone, but we can try to fit most needs.

As someone who has organized a number of meets I would suggest just pick a park that hasn't yet opened up its reservation system for the time you are doing the meet so that there are still lots of sites available and post the details and date the reservation system opens up. State the section of the park you are wanting to use and let people book their own sites. Which is how many of the the meets in NA are done. As the organizer it does not leave you with any issues regarding payment or liability in the event of an incident or matter how many people show up.

Thanks for the input, Carol. We may just have to do something like that.

What kind of timing works for most? For me it is hit and miss. May long, first weekend in June, pretty much all summer to Labour Day, and one weekend mid-September are the only times that don't work well for me.

We would be interested in attending , however we'd be looking for a hook-up . This year we hope to attend the Escape rally at Osoyoos - which will be our first ever rally , and this Sept . we plan to travel to the east coast ( hopefully attend the Niagara Wine rally ) . Our trip east won't be less than a month , so not sure we'd be here depending on the time chosen for this rally .

I hope to see you guys in Osoyoos this year, and somewhere closer to home too.

Jim, Ian et al, perhaps using something like Doodle ( Doodle: easy scheduling ) to use as an online (and free) scheduling aid for the event. Whoever sets it up can blank out dates that are NOT good and others can tick off dates that are good.

Have used it a number of times for scheduling multi people events, something to chew on?

When I made the reservation they told me they had a lovely spot with a site right beside the honey wagon, sounded sweet so we took it
