Bluebonnet

Sure would be glad to have you. Some of us are showing up on the third.
If you can't make it we will still see you a couple of weeks later at Lopez Lake.

Nick, could you tell me where these two areas are located? We need a close-in weekend around that time. Is is Casita-exclusive or could a U-Haul sneak in?:wave

Nick's gone

Nick went camping over Christmas ... but he said in his subheading that "All fiberglass trailers are welcome."

Knowing Nick, I'm sure he'd be tickled pick if you'd show up to the TEXAS bluebonnet rally ... no matter what rig you're pulling.

Lopez Lake is in California ... not exactly a "close in" campout for y'all.

Thank you!

Charles,
Thanks so much for the info. We are excited about hitting the road to some fun weekends, but it has to be "close-in" for us as we both work. And boy, does Texas ever get big when you have to drive across! We drove from here to Tucumcari, NM our 1st night of our trip last summer, and all day seemed to be Texas!:r

Lost Maples

Craig, Lost Maples State Park is in the Kerrville area. That's west/southwest of San Antonio (and, I'm afraid, a long way from Shreveport!)

:shame

Shreveport to Lost Maples

Definitely too long a drive for a weekend (500 miles one way), but that would make a great trip when you had more time. Coming down through East Texas and cutting through...lots of nice scenery.

:wave Thank you for the info! I have a friend who lives a few miles south of the Texas Motor Speedway who flies for American and builds homebuilt airplanes as well. I think that is our 1st "close-in" trip. What a spread they have...they live on a private airstrip with his hangar in the backyard!

Hey, Craig. That's not far from Lake Ray Roberts (which is just north of Denton). Try it. You might like it!

Charles
Just rolled in from San Antonio where we were visiting Marlenes aunt and uncle. We go by there to visit them on our way back from our New Years trips to Big Bend.

Lost Maples is just outside of Vanderpool Texas. Find Junction Texas on Interstate 10. Follow US 83 south till you come to Leakey, then east on Texas 337 to Vanderpool.

We stopped at Lost Maples on our way home and it is now in our top 10 places. Everything good about the Texas Hill Country is here.

I have 20 spots spoken for out of 30 camper sites. The park personel showed 11 confirmed sites as of 6 Jan 03.:huh :huh

Okay all you Fiberglassaddicts!

:party :party
I made my reservation for this party last night.

Anybody here besides Nick and Les planning to attend?

Remember, even though they're calling it a ''Casita Fest,'' all are welcome!

There were only SIX sites left unreserved when I checked last night. (Be forewarned: there are plenty of Primitive sites left, but those are ''hike in only'' - won't work, even for our small, molded fiberglass travel trailers!)

Woo Hoo! :wave I am really looking forward to meeting some of y'all!

Meet

I'm gonna get to meet Mary!
I'm gonna get to meet Mary!!:)

Mary, looking forward to this. You and Donna can discuss libraries. She is missing the TLA convention to go to Lost Maples. The convention is in Dallas this year, so no big deal. However, next year it is San Antonio and I may lose her for that week.:sad

Nick, I'll help count the trailers (to run an old joke into the ground).

Leslie

Bluebonnet Campout

You guys keep rubbing it in! This is going to be a wonderful get together, I just know it. I wanted to go to this more than you know, but it appears that there is a schedule conflict for me than cannot be changed.

These spaces are limited and going very fast...those who are still trying to decide, you better make reservations -- soon.

Bring back lots of pictues

Leslie I guess there really is a Mary, at least Charles says there is.In April we will all know for sure.

The loop at Lost Maples is pretty short. If you look in the rear view mirror you will probably be able to see yourself. (more running into ground):o

Ha!

Ah yup, there really is a Mary Foster.

Actually, to run another joke into the ground, I met two Mary Fosters, quite by accident, camping in a far-off, pristine mountain top campground near a lake where the trout literally jump into your frypan.

And, to this day, Mary tells me she will kill me if I tell people the name and location of the campground.

Maybe you guys can pry it out of her at the rally.

Les ... I'd put you in charge of counting trailers anyday!

Since Les won't explain ... I'll be happy to tell people that the first night Les and his wife camped in their little fiberglass wonder, they drove around the campground after dropping off the trailer.

Coming around the loop, Les was excited to see another little fiberglass egg camped in the same campground ... excited, that is, until his wife pointed out that Les had "found" their own trailer because they had merely driven around in a big circle.

So, from this day forward, we put Les in charge of counting little fiberglass wonders.

There's one ... and another one ... and another one. We let Les drive around in circles until he tires and the count is super inflated.

Hi, Les. :wave

Nice to know Donna and I have something in common (besides our Casitas), but you can set her mind at ease and tell her I promise not to talk about libraries the whole entire weekend!

I mean I figure she's skipping TLA because she'd rather go camping than talk about libraries... and I would hate to disappoint her!
