When attempting to determine if an axle is still good, one thing I look at is the top of the wheel well in relation to the hub of the tire. Not necessarily the body to the ground. It doesn't matter if the tire is flat or not. Check out the differences between the trailer above and a pic I snagged on Scamps site, this may help determine if this axle good, marginal or shot:

Neat picture Donna,

Interesting I never noticed the difference in body styles before. The new Scamps have a greater curvature of the lower edge curbside, where the old model was flatter.

And going by The Donna Method, the Scamp for sale's axle might not be that bad It is a tad lower; not sure how much is too much though

But it definitely looked lower than it is, due to the flat, it seems.

Kevin: Yes when I said "another" I was referring to an earlier thread (Referrals, $800 Boler clone with gold stripe and window like yours). Sorry I wasn't clear, but Roy explained it well.

The Donna Method... oh brother is everyone in trouble. But, it does bring up something. Anyone that is replacing an axle may want to take some measurements from top of wheel well to the ground... write that down in a safe place... like a journal. In the future, a re-measurement would tell you how you're axle is doing. Just an idea.

Or use an old brochure with specs.

Total height
- inside height
----------------
= Height to top of floor

(or approx 3 3/4" less) to bottom of frame for wood floors.

Here is a little more info. Checking the specs on the Dexter #9 axle for the 22.5 down to 10 up we get the following.

Range of travel from no load to full load = 2.18" to 2.34" in total
Range of travel from no load to shock load = 3.01" to 3.34" in total

I was going to "Buy-It" and restore it , but after 5 messages left the person either "SOLD" it or they are out of town all this week. I have not been able to talk to a live person yet!
