Yes it is garage-able-and campable! We are currently using it-this is our 2nd season, we just need something larger. It is in great shape as you can see in the photos

IL 1989 16 ft. scamp
Hi - We would be novices - haven't owned a camper trailer yet... is your scamp still for sale? How much will new tires cost? We are driving through Illinois in a about a week, and are definitely in the market to buy! Which part of the state are you in? Thanks - Duncan Lewis

Hi Duncan!
The Scamp takes a 13 inch tire, depending on what kind you prefer, pricing varies. We are currently looking at tires and rims for under $200.00. Otherwise, the Scamp is in great condition and everything fully functional. The outside needs a good scrubbing. The individual we purchased this from was the original owners son-he took very good care of it and kept it up. We are located in West Central Illinois, 30 miles west of Peoria, IL. Please let me know if you will be able to stop by-I"d love to show this to you!
Thank you!

1989 Scamp
Hi Gene & Sue -
Thank you for your quick reply! We are very interested, but, naturally, we have a few questions... The main one being: Is it road-ready? (The issue of the new tires and rims can be dealt with, I'm sure) This is important to us, as we will be en route to South Dakota, and wouldn't want any bad surprises once there.
I'm not sure how that would work with tags, etc., either. But, assuming that the plumbing and A/C and stove and lights all work, I know from looking around for several months that yours is an attractive asking price.
One idea would be to talk on the phone about the other questions, and, pending that, get a deposit to you in order to hold it for us until we arrive. Upon inspection and approval, we could then complete the deal.
We would want to avoid having the Scamp being sold while we are on our way - if we were committed the purchase. We are leaving NC a week from Tuesday, the 29th of May, which would put us in your area sometime on Wednesday the 30th.
I haven't tried it yet, but I think there is a private way to share phone numbers on this site, if you are open to consider continuing the process on the phone.
It looks like your camper is what we want, and is in our price range...
We look forward to your response!
Sincerely, Duncan & Ulrike.

Duncan & Ulrike-
I would definately get new tires before pulling it out of state. A/C, Stove, Lights, Toilet, Kitchen Sink, Electric Water Pump, Electric Dorm size Frig, all work-even the outside porch light works! We have towed this, and all the running lights and brake lights operate. My husband replaced the entire floor, from frame up, under the back table/bench-he also replaced new fiberglass where the walls back there connect to the floor. We installed all new laminate flooring. The rat fur is flawless-no tears at all. All that is really left to do on this Scamp is personal touches, the outside scrubbed down well and replace decals. The rims are fine, I would just want different ones, but the tires definately need replaced, that is something we haven't done yet. Tags can be obtained here in town, thats not a problem and I have the title, which is free and clear. Its doubtful this will be sold prior to your trip-I'm in no hurry to sell this, and definately want this to go to someone who will enjoy it as much as we have. If you'd like, I can also send you additional photos via email-please provide your email in your next correspondence.
Thank you!
Gene and Sue

It's called "Private Messaging".
Click on Susanm34 in the left column and it will reveal the private message option for you. It's not a good idea to provide personal information in open threads.

Since you are from out of state (out of Illinois), you should check with your local DMV to see how to handle the tags. They may want you to put a State placard in your window (for North Carolina?) or they may just say to drive it until you get back home. Also, check with your insurance carrier to make sure you are covered towing it.
Good luck! Hope you have a great adventure!

When I bought my Scamp in Montana, I asked about a temporary tag (from Montana) for transport because I had to bring it back through several states. The seller was kind enough to pick it up for me ($8).

I'm going to inquire with Illinois DMV and see how this can be handled.
Thanks for the info!
