2005 Casita 13' Travel Trailer - $7500 (Mpls)

Has anyone seen this one? For the past 2 weeks we have been emailing the seller and last night we finally made arrangements to travel 300 miles with the hope of buying it. We had a name to make the cashiers check to( not the owner of the camper!) and an address( the person we are to make the check to). This morning we received an email saying he changed his mind and wants cash only! We were really excited about getting this camper, but now there are red flags popping up!! Is this camper too good to be true?

I read the craigslist listing and one thing jumps out at me is the comment on "permanent registration no title needed" as far as I know it should be titled just like a car is, my boat trailer and utility trailer have permanent registration but my 16 ft scamp has a title. I would also think any seller would gladly accept a cashiers check not insist on cash especially 7500 dollars worth................my 2 cents worth save the gas money

Exclamation If it is "PTI" then it does NOT get a title

If it is anything like California's PTI registration then the advertiser is truthful. I think several states may be going down that path to lighten the load on their DMVs. This limits the market though... to states with similar programs.

In California to get PTI plates, it must be classified as a "Camp Trailer" and be 16' or less. Otherwise it is classified as a "Trailer Coach" and has the full Title/Registration fee structure and renewal cycle.

I know in NY if its under a certain weight it gets no title, it has a Transferable registration . And I don't blame the owner being a little suspicious over a cashiers check, because there has been plenty of people on Ebay/Craigslist who have gotten burned from a forged one. Its getting harder and harder to protect yourself when dealing with another person now a days. I've just sold recently a truck camper and the buyer was from out of state, so I wanted cash. My truck I just sold, the buyer was from the next town over and I accepted a cashiers check from his credit union.

Thank you all for your input. We took a chance and drove the 300 miles to see this camper and the seller was a very nice man who we are buying the camper from. We tried to see the money part of it from his side and if it was us selling something we would probably feel the same. So we will soon be camping in our new little camper!!!
thanks again,
mjs

sorry for posting my advise, but as far as i know camping trailers including down to popup need to be titled in Minnesota........and I dont know where Kevin K got that listing but the one i read on Saturday morning didnt have

Sale by original owner.
Have title/registration documentation.
Immediate sale on cash payment, or upon verified cleared payment of cashier check.

and as for taking a cashiers check just have buyer and seller go to bank and cash the check, then you might as well go down the block to the dmv and get titled transferred so there are no surprises like I have read in other threads
.
