Black M92 Marr Marrette for Trillium

Hello,

Looks like I am missing one of the black marrette caps that go on the wire joins. It looks like the one in the picture. If anyone has one around from re-doing their wiring, or know where I can get one it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I found the missing cap deep in the floor boards of my Trillium, so I no longer need one.


BTW, the model is a No.2, not an M92. The reference one I was looking at the cap was a little beat up and my eyes are getting old - damn.

Hi Greg,

It is used to join two or possibly more (up to what the metal "barrel" piece will accomodate inside it) electrical wires together instead of a crimp style terminator cap. The nice thing about them is that they are completely reuseable as they have a screw that presses down and holds the wires together from the side, then you simply screw on the black plastic piece (that I was missing) onto the top of the metal barrel piece that is holding the wires together to insulate the new connection(s). You can try and reuse the crimp on ones but it take some patience and skill to open them up again where they will release the wires and so that you can do whatever you need to do then crimp them back on, assuming removing the crimp on terminator didn't damage the plastic beyond being useful. I hate having to cut the wires to get the terminating cap off because each time it gets shorter and shorter. This may not be a problem but in the case of the 7 way cable they only left about 2 inches of cable to work with, so if you have to cut it each time it wouldn't last long and it makes it hard to work with each time it gets shorter.

Thanks for the info, that's a good idea because I know all about cutting wires and replacing the crimp connecters.

this style has largely been given up, most people (tradesmen) now use either twist on Marrettes or Ideal twist on wire nuts

Actually, Home Depot still sells these:

I think they are good for applications where there is a lot of vibrations, such as the trailer rolling down the highway, due to the setting screw that gets locked down by the cap. You could use the crimp on type, but personally I prefer not to for reasons stated above. Just providing this as information for anyone else that may be looking for some and not trying to "be right" or anything like that. Cheers!

I don't recall ever hearing of Marrette Caps and I have an associate degree in electic power and worked 22 years designing tools which used such things.

But, then again, we used what our company stocked for the most part.

Makes perfect sense for high vibration applications.
