Small generator Wanted

I'm looking for a used Honda, Sinemaster/Kipor generator to help power my Boler (radio, heat, blender...etc). I'd like a 2000w unit but would consider a 1000w if the price is right.

Several months ago, I bought a Kipor KGE1000TI. This thing is just incredible.

You pull the crank 6 inches, and it starts.

I paid $340.00 for it.

Where/who will service Kipor or Sinmasters? I like the prices but feel the only way to be "protected" would be to buy a Honda since they can be services almost anywhere...?

On a trip last fall, we tried using Gina D.'s Kipor [b]1000 to power my 700 watt Microwave. No go. I recommend the 2000 for you.

He isn't running anything I don't. No mention of microwave..

It does fine for all the things listed, including a cube heater. I dont know about a hair dryer. Probably not.

The price for a 2000 is the same as what a 1000 went for a year ago so the smart money says buy the bigger one.

I'm still concerned about buying a generator (Kipor) on the internet and not having a local distributor available to service it if need be. Will a small engine shop or even a Honda dealer work on these "off" brands?

So far we still have power but the 70-100 foot pine trees in the yard are screaming & leaning.

That is why I mentioned the Microwave. I thought that the power draw would be similar.

My 2000 watt Kipor (McCulloch) will run a 1750 watt hair dryer, 1500 watt ceramic cube heater, microwave and frig. in my trailer, etc. It will not run my 5000 BTU window AC.

We lost power for three hours due to a tree brach blowing out a trasformer. Luckily, it was on Sauturday and not Super Sunday.

I actually rented a Honda eu2000ti ($30) early Saturday am knowing we would lose power. Man, that thing was awesome. We watched TV and the wife used her blow dryer.
She then said "we gotta get one of these"....yes, I got the green light!

I purchased a new Kipor (McCulloch FG2000TC 2000 Watt Digital) over the Internet from Tool King for a total, including shipping, for $508.

Sportsman’s Guide wanted an additional almost $100 for the same thing because they charge an outrageous shipping/handling charge.

Tool King charged $29.49 shipping. So shop around before you purchase.

I had a Yamaha 1000W and it would barely run the AC in the Scamp, but nothing else during the AC time so that is why I purchased the 2000W. I haven't used it yet and hope it will run the AC better than the Yamaha.

If you want a really inexpensive generator look in www.heartlandamerica.com for the 1000W 2-cycle unit.

Because McCulloch is a name that has been around almost forever in North America I feel secure and sure that should I ever require service I will be able to find a service center.

For the price of this unit I can run it until it don't run anymore and then get a new one and it will still be less expensive than purchasing a Yamaha or Honda.

I also bought my McCulloch from Tool King for $500 plus $7 shipping. I have only used it to see what it will do and haven't taken it camping. Run it a total of less than one hour. So I've had no need to search for service or parts. I'll cross that bridge when I .......

I see they in fact have it for $499. Is this model (FG2000tc) safe to use on electronics like a TV and latop....not that I plan on watching tv while camping...but I do want it for power outages.

It is an electronic output meaning it must generate in DC then run it through an inverter to give a more true 60hz output.

I've tried two different television sets with mine. Both worked perfectly. No static or interference lines. I don't have a lap top, so I can't answer that part. Tom Trostel

The Kipor/Sinemasters come in two versions.. invertor and non invertor. Check to be sure which one you are getting. The "Yellow" case ones are invertor and Red non invertor..

EXCEPT, the McCulloch versions.. the invertor one is Red as I recall.

My yellow case McCulloch FG2000Tc is advertised as a "Digital" generator (whatever that means). I see in the user manual an electrical wiring diagram that has a large box in the middle of the wiring labeled "Inverter unit". The generator has a "Smart throttle" switch that senses load and increases rpms as needed just like Honda's ecothrottle. So what is it? If it's an invertor generator, why doesn't the company advertise it as such? And if it's not an invertor generator, why does it have an "inverter"? Tom Trostel

Gina: The inverter model McCulloch is Yellow.

This is as clear as mud.

You don't invert AC, you invert DC to make it AC therefore the generator must be generating DC then running it through the inverter to make it a sign wave AC. Most TV's and appliances will work fine on a sign wave 60hz. Now a computer is a different animal and may be more susceptible to the sign wave. It takes the 60hz and changes it back to DC to operate the thing.

The idle switch idles the engine when there is NO Load. When it detects a load it throttles up. The manual does not say anything about the engine running at different speeds (RPM) to match the load.

I bought an 800 watt 2 cycle generator yesterday in Mexico City. Have not had a chance to fire it up yet as I need to get a gas can and mix some fuel for the unit. I bought it for lights only for my 75 Boler down here on the beach.
Will let you know how it works out later on this week.
and Oh Yes..... the price...... 1670 pesos .... works out to about 167 dollars u.s.

ONE of these has the exact opposite color scheme as standard. I remember us talking about it BC (Before Crash)

I went ahead and ordered the McCulloch 2000. $499 and $8 in shipping. It's due to arrive any day now. As soon as it arrives, I'll try it out and report back.
