I happened across this today, it was posted on craigslist on 4-10-09


Sweet looking, though I am not sure it's technically molded? Does anyone know? I looked for it on the homepage, but can't find. but it sure looks like a molded fiberglass travel trailer. If not Donna you can delete! COOOOOOOOOOOOL find thought!

It's baaaack. Actually, it's been back a couple of times before (same photos anyway, and in Michigan).

I believe it's made of Royalex, which is more of a formed plastic like a Royalex canoe. Here's what Wikipedia has to day about Royalex ( I was curious to see for myself, so I looked it up):

Royalex is a composite material, comprising an outer layer of Vinyl and hard acrylonitrile butadiene styrene plastic (ABS) and an inner layer of ABS foam. The layers are bonded by heat treatment.

It is heavier, and less suited for high-performance paddling than fiber-reinforced composites, such as fiberglass, kevlar, or graphite. The exception here is whitewater canoes, where Royalex is the material of choice for performance boats.

Royalex was developed by the Uniroyal company.

Nope, I won't. Although technically NOT a molded lightweight fiberglass towable as we typically know them... because it's not fiberglass I think anyone looking to buy something that fits into that genre and wanted something truly unique would be willing to seriously look at this. I know I would if it was in Portland, OR... gotta change those stroller wheels/tires tho

That's the first thing I noticed as well. Although, I've seen strollers with bigger wheels!

Might be tricky putting larger tires/wheels on. Would probably have to raise the body which would change the center of gravity.

Those little tires would have to be rotating their little hearts out at 60 mph!

I was wondering if instead of a double axle, it would be wise to go with a new single axle (brakes of course!), so bigger tires could be used Or something.... If it were mine, I'd figure out a way to make it work!

Interesting information. I agree about it being a unique. And for those who like the rare vintage aspect of the trailer might look at this lite weight alternative. Would be interesting to find out if it's molded. Wish someone could actually go see it, to find out if the Brand name posted is correct. I am with you Donna, if it was here I sure would be checking it out.




hmmmmm, the tires crack me up! Bet the wheel bearings get hot even on a short road trip.

You know, we're going about this the wrong way. Surely the FiberglassRV group can pull together on this. A member in the MI area buys it and at some rally/meet transfers it to someone further west. The process continues until the trailer eventually appears at a rally/meet that Frederick is at and the trailer goes home with him. The only time-critical part is that the trailer be purchased before it becomes unavailable -- who cares about the delivery time?

The only remaining issue is the money -- I'll let Frederick and the intermediate buyers/transporters figure that out. If I were in his place, I would have the MI member be his agent, but Frederick pays the seller and takes title in his own name. As long as he has title and knows the whereabouts of the trailer things should be good. But I've never done something like this and my comment may be woefully naive.
