NJ | Talk me out of my Scamp! $6,000

It's killing me to think about it but I'm considering selling my 1990 16' Scamp. Most everything works. There are maybe a couple of interior lights out but all of the big stuff works. Has a toilet and shower. No A/C.

It's in NJ.
Anybody know what it's worth?

Maybe a couple thousand considering the lights out [not really]. We are considering a slightly larger camper than our 13' Uhaul to leave in the south for the winter and NJ isn't too far from us in upstate NY. Let's see what others think the value may be, and if you decide to sell we may take a look.

My opinion without knowing the condition of anything but assuming it's typical... axle OK, tires worn, cushions need replacing, all appliances work, floor OK..... I would say a 1990 Scamp 16 is worth about $5-6,000.

We have an unabused 1991 and found with a relatively small financial investment and a fair amount of effort, a better than new, in terms of function and useability, is possible.

I think the ability to take a 20 year old Scamp and make it as good or better than new for a few thousand dollars is the strength of fiberglass rigs.

Why are you thinking of selling your scamp? Do you have ideas of another trailer or has life taken a turn in another direction?

Last year we bought a 2001 16 ft Scamp.
It has the side bathroom and was in really nice shape except for the outside. It had been parked under a tree that left blackish stuff all over it.
It had not been winterized correctly so we had to put in a new water heater and some new pipe but the former owner sent us a check for the repairs. He did not know the water heater was damaged.
It did not have a/c.
After a good wash and wax and some rivet caps replaced - it now looks pretty good.
We paid $6,250 for it.
Had been checking sold Scamps so think the price was ok.
It was for sale only 9 miles from our home which made the decision easier.

Your SCAMP is worth exactly.... what a buyer will pay for it. Right now prices are about to take off for the season so, if possible, wait another month or two and then start advertising it at about $7000. If the condition warrents, it should sell quickly.
But again, wait at least another month or two until prices head up.

If you need the sale ASAP, try starting at about $5000, again based on condition.

OR

Tow it to California and increase the above numbers by 25%

Sounds like you really don't want to sell it, but feel like you need the money for something else. Sorry you find yourself in an uncomfortable position, and I hope you can find a way to muddle through without selling your dear egg.

I agree, it would probably bring $5k to $6K.

Very clean.
I have the title.
No leaks (as far as I know)
If anyone is really interested in coming to see it I'll go through it with a fine toothed comb, make a list of what I find, and then they can decide if they want to come.

I am considering selling it because I think that I need a new motor for my boat more than the trailer. These are sad times indeed.

I sold my Trillium when I wanted to do something else. I regretted it almost immediately. Fortunately a lot of the fun with these little trailers is finding them and fixing them up the way we like them. Good luck on your sale and when/if your priorities change down the road there will always be another one out there waiting for you.

Heh Chris, my boat got totalled in Sandy and bought my ParkLiner with the insurance money. I had more fun in my little homebuilt tiny travel trailer last summer then I had on the boat in years...High price of marina's, so many drunk boaters with no regards to being anchored in a no wake zone would go slaloming around us... just got old. I thought of moving from sail to power to be able to get out further and faster away from the people but then if you think towing eats gas, drive a powerboat lol.

I think you also need to think hard about whether it is right to post here about thinking of selling your trailer?

This is a section for trailers to be sold and thus if you do not post that way no comments are really any more out of line here than yours.

Posting this elsewhere on this site makes complete sense for getting a feel for the value and helping you decide but trolling here for advise is just bad form in my eye.
