Interesting, also note that Japanese planes and a lot of the woodworking tools are designed to pull rather than push. This was explained to me as pulling the spirit of the wood to yourself, rather than rejecting it by pushing away. Every time I'm in Japan I go and drool over all the neat tools they have, bring one or two home every trip.
