first flakes of the season

I'm packing up these quilled snowflakes to send to an old friend, and thought I'd post a few photos here. (Poor photos -- I have to learn to use my camera better!) Snowflakes are fun to make, and fun to give away over the holidays.

Cool, yes -- even cold! I send them to friends in subtropical climates to remind them what snow looks like!

Gorgeous! What is the material? I don't know what quilled means.

What lovely snowflakes. They look a bit warmer than the ones that were landing on me earlier today.

How do you make them?

They are just narrow strips of paper that have been coiled and pinched into shapes. Then the shaped pieces are glued together to make the snowflake (or whatever you want).

There are lots of instructions on the internet if you'd like to try it. Quilling is fun, and it's a really portable craft, too! The supplies are minimal, lightweight, and take up very little space.

I am the lucky recipient of a snowflake, as was my girlfriend. Louise was so gracious to bring them to us when she stopped by to tour our campers earlier this fall! They're even lovelier in person.
Thanks again, Louise

Come to think of it, my granddaughters are visiting us this weekend, and I think that this might be a nice little craft project for us all.
