Hello, you are not the only purists here, I just got my license for Pa and have spent only one day so far on a stream. this year Great day with friends and nature with a few nice quiet hours casting line.
I will give the streams a couple more weeks to warm up then spend a week North of Clearfield Pa on a yearly trip. We stay at a friends hunting camp and only fish, eat and sleep. We have our favorite spots we have to try , but always spend searching out a new stream. We are mostly catch and release and only take a couple for the pan. Very hard finding any native trout anymore, but with fees rising I see fewer fishermen each year, especially out of site of the road. Looking forward to a trip to Ontario this fall to Algonquin near Pembroke for some Brook trout. Hope we can talk Fishing on the fly.

Our Scamp follows us to a variety of streams in Colorado. Just got back from a cold weekend on the upper reaches of the Conejos, for our first camping and fishing outing of the season. Southern banks still snow covered, combat wading and very cold water, as more water was being let out of the dam, and not a sign of trout. Ah, well - an absolutely great weekend none-the-less.

I have the most fun fly fishing out here in January and February in the tailwaters - I can get to them, the water is low and clear, and, of course, it's almost always sunny. We don't do much camping until March or April, though, unless we're on a road trip.

Lake fishing in the Washington- Idaho area. Amber lake slow but fish in good condition,Coffee pot lake the fish on average 17-22 inches and fat. Missed the prerun of on the local rivers but the reports have been that the fish were many.
Hope to be on the rivers soon.

Brandy I only fish lake in Washington, the rivers of Idaho and Montana draw me to the East when river flows are good.

Northern Michigan and the UP have some wonderful trout streams. My husband and I both flyfish. One of our favorite spots is Canoe Harbor state forest campground where we fish the holy waters of the Au Sable river near Grayling, MI.

I am mainly a Bass fisherman and I collect the old baitcaster reels from the 40's and 50's. I have about 40 all told in my collection. I guess that I'm a bit of a tackle junky. BUT, I like to FF as well and have a couple of flyrods that I use for the spring and fall runs. Many of the streams that flow into Lake Erie and Lake Ontario here on the North Shore have good runs of Rainbows and Browns. One rod I like to use for Largemouth Bass on Longpoint Bay where I do my fishing, back in the marsh, by canoe or kayak. There are some excellent Speckle trout lakes in Algonquin Provincial Park and some good deep water Lakers too. You can get them in shallow water in the early spring just after ice-out.

In college (Northern Mich U) in 1977, I had to take a PE course. I am not very athletic. So I signed up for flycasting class! It was fun and easy, and of course I aced the class. Unfortunately I only used my casting ability one time, when I went fishing with a cousin who had the equipment. Spent all afternoon and evening fishing and only caught one undersized trout, which was returned for a future battle. I never bought my own flycasting equipment and never went out again. Hmm, maybe....

Depending on when you come in the fall, you might want to try the salmon runs.

Just a fishing story. Just got off the Selway River after a few days of fishing. Some cutthroat but water high and cold.
OK the fish story , the Selway is a Native American river for Salmon. After I was done fishing and walking back to camp looking down river I saw a person crawling across the rocks the person was still far off but I up the pace of my walk.
As the person neared the river he half standing and half leaning against a rock cast out into the river. I went down to the river to talk to the man to see if he was OK. He was an 85 year old Native American who told me " that to draw of Salmon fishing is very strong in him and his family and he has fished this run for over 70 years and if he has to crawl to fish then he will crawl" I bid him a good day and hope I will do the same at his age.
