ok, heres a passion

does anyone else do "chore specific" camping?

what is that you ask?

well i made up the term, but it involves camping for a volunteer work related reason.

i do a lot of work with the michigan department of natural resources, in a program they call "stewardship".

we cut and pull invasive weeds, pick wildflower seeds for replanting to reclaim natural sites like a lake plain prairie. plant seeds and help areas recover. help with erosion control projects and such. i feel its paying back something for all the enjoyment i get from our state parks.

i also guard the sturgeon on their spawning run.

i will frequently camp at a state campground when i am working on a project near by.

YES, what a great way to promote a worthwhile project. I did use my "Teardrop" as a home while working with the "St Bernards project" in New Orleans. Camped at the ST. Bernards state park in Chalmette. Did rehab of homes hurt by Katrina. Worked during the day with evenings used to see New Orleans. There must be very many projects similar to this, and its a feel good thing to do. Try it, you'll like it.

John, that stewardship programs sounds wonderful. I wonder if they have similar programs down south?

I'm an avid plant lover, so that would be something I would really enjoy now and then.
