Here's our little camp at Grasslands National Park. We thought it was cool to be inside the fence leaving the prairie for the bison to roam free.

This little storm had us scurrying to get the canopy down. Hubby didn't think I had time to get a photo first - but I did AND popped the camera under cover!.

Selling tires at the automotive swap meet at Springfield, Ohio. This was a three day "event" at the fair grounds there. My family owns the business. They talked me into "coming out of retirement" to drive the yellow truck to the "road show". Sold about $70k worth and did not break even.

Trip to the Bonneville Salt Flats last summer to watch the speed trials. The event lasts for a week. You take a shade, cooler, lawn chairs etc. That trip ended when my generator caught fire in the back of my truck.

My son is a commercial pilot. Last fall we rented a small plane to gets some aerial photos and scout for hunting locations. The photo with the circle drive is my farm where I live now. The other photo is the ranch where I grew up. It is still in the family. These are in the Missouri Ozarks.

Hunting scenes. I came across these frost flowers last fall while deer hunting in Missouri. They sometimes "grow" or form on the forest floor at night when there is no wind and the temperature dips down into the 20's. They are pure ice and you can eat them.

Crew of 10 Missouri boys. It took two full days to unload four trucks and set up the displays. Then the swap meet went for three days. Then about 8 hours to load what didn't sell and 8 hours to get home. The company paid for all the meals and soda but not beer. They had enough money among themselves for plenty of that. They brought sleeping bags and slept in the back of the trucks. Took showers at the facilities on the fair grounds. We go to the big show in Jefferson, Wisconsin in September.

Port Townsend and Anacortes

We have just returned from four nights camping at Bay View State Park with trips to Anacortes and Port Townsend.

Both places are easy to get to and well worth seeing. More photos here:

Nice picture Brian. I still have fond memories of 10 years ago or so doing a 9 day trip that was laid out with the idea of seeing as many of the covered bridges in Oregon as we could in that time. The trip was made even more enjoyable by including stops at a number of small wineries along the way.

Grayton Beach Sate Park, Florida

A couple of shots taken along the Florida panhandle with a Canon PowerShot SX30 IS.

--- I'd be interested in hearing any tips for getting more out of this camera - it is a non-SLR digital with a fairly decent basic lens.

Understand the camera's limitations.

Understand where the camera meter is most sensitive in the frame.

And most importantly remember it's the person who takes the picture and not the camera.

I love your first shot. Nice color, exposure, and composition.

Beautiful pic of a beautiful bridge. If your ever up around Ashtabula County in Northeast Ohio during the fall, they have a Covered Bridge Festival. You drive around to all the different bridges, I think there is like 12 or so. A lot of them are on dirt roads. Scenic. The usually have crafts, apple cider, and goodies available at each bridge.

Winter Camping in Washington State

We spent three nights camping at Bay View State Park this week, with side trips to Port Townsend and La Conner. A great opportunity for taking some photos!

Weather cooperated and this area is wonderful for observing the early arrival of spring on the west coast!
