Once all the safety equipment was added they started to lose popularity.

Can't be too many horse lovers here, they can't tow eggs because they have to tow their horse trailers.

I'm sure there are plenty of us here. If you're one of them consider joining "Sisters on the Fly". There are LOTS of cowgirls in this group of women that loves camping, fishing and horses, and have more fun that anybody!

This is my now 27-year-old recent retiree Rex. (he sometimes gets to wear "Gutsy Gelding" kentucky derby winner Funny Cide's halter for giggles). Rex has been my go anywhere, do anything horse - did dressage, combined training, local-level showjumping, games, and daily trail rides. He was also voted MVP defense horse at the intermediate level polocrosse at APA nationals....oh, what, 10 or 12 years ago. And even at 27 years old he hasn't lost his appaloosa streak of mischief.

Geronimo is a BLM mustang I borrowed from a friend in 2010 to go with me on a crackpot hike across Pennsylvania. We did 475 miles in a month. Geronimo got the job when Rex decided he was just getting too old for that kind of nonsense. It was that trip that inspired me to get a FGRV!

Very nice wonderful animals. A trailer can hardly begin to take their place.

my last ride was a 1/4 horse from texas named lawman...before him a draft pony who was coming along really well and then tossed me off-first fall in 30 yrs-but i did fracture my pelvis. before that a draft/WB cross and before her...the first one after having both knees replaced was a really sweet 1/4 horse mare named jewel. i have been leasing recently.

i had at least one horse in the back yard since i was 7 but somewhere in the early 2000's i had to break up the farm...to fight lyme disease and then get new knees. 4 months after surgery i was riding again. kinda like riding a bike...but i need bombproof now. no more falls.

Two beautiful animals Jen. A trailer (even a cute fiberglass) could never come close to replacing a beloved horse.

Great looking horse Jen. The kind I'd like to have. Grew up with an Uncle who had a ranch and several horses.

Always thought it would be cool to see an egg pulled by a team!

Love the horse jokes. Nice Mustang and that is quite a trip!

I started riding and working at a stable when I was 12 and stayed till I was 20, got married and moved north. Bought two horses and two ponies and sold our last in 1980.

No longer ride due to back issues but sometimes think I need to for therapy to try to build up muscles, a nice gentle guy with an easy gate would fit today. Click image for larger version

The pics of me on the horses were horses I took care of for the owners that were only here on the weekends, except for the gray, I took lessons on her and almost bought her. The bay is my half-Morgan ex-endurance horse, a gelding; the Pinto is my grade mare; the pinto pony is a Quarter pony we bought for the kids but he was not a beginner pony and needed an experienced rider, so we sold him and bought the roan pony mare, she was a great babysitter. She was also trained to drive and a lot of fun.

Those were the days.....

Hahaha, I just realized there are no saddles in any of the pics I posted. Trust me, I did ride with a saddle....sometimes. VBG. Sometimes western, sometimes 5-gated saddle seat, sometimes forward seat. And the big red horse I rode was an off the track Standardbred and he came with is own weird Australian type of saddle. Can't even find a pic of what it was like anymore.

Smile Love the horses!

I enjoyed looking at the horses pictured in this forum as I used to have one as a kid - his name was Major Catastophe. I took riding lessons with our girls when they were younger. Now I volunteer once a week at SARI, the Special Abilities Riding Institute near London, Ontario. If you have a few minutes then check out their stable at SARI Therapeutic Riding - they are all wonderful animals.

I'm a horse person too, in fact, that's how I originally met jen b, who then dragged me into the FGRV world.

I have 3 horses and a mini horse in my backyard. Two are retired, one is my trail guy, and the mini is a pet for my young daughter.

I had horses for most of my life until 2004. Found out I couldn't travel without worrying about them Most were quarter horses--the best breed going. Showed Buckskins for several years. It was a tough decision to get out, the field and barn were soooo empty and quiet. I do miss them!!

I was really considering Sisters on the Fly--love horses, love the West, LOVE fly fishing, love my little trailer. I also love my dog and decided against joining when I saw that dogs were not welcome.
