Actually the only lucas smoke for me came from my father charging my cortina battery backwards, yes positive ground(earth). That cost me a battery, generator and voltage regulator. The fun stuff was hooking up a stereo with having to make sure it wasn't touching any metal!

Here I am "Livin' the Dream" at Ft Irwin, CA in Jan '04. It's part of the Mojave Desert north of Barstow, and borders Death Valley's southern border. We lived in our vehicles for 2 months, sleeping in the back. I woke up twice to remove coyotes trying to get my rations. I love the desert, especially this one!
Humvee's were the perfect vehicle for the desert. We seldom used the road network; and if all 4 wheels were on the ground at the same time; we weren't trying! Since I was a taxpayer, and thus a part owner of my vehicle, I'm changing my answer to this one. Let me take this opportunity to thank all you other "part owners" out there for helping out with the financing. Tom

I owned 2 57 chevy convertibles ,one red one all white ,fender skirts, continental kit . I learned a lot about fast cars and fast women in those two cars, ( both ere expensive hobbies) lol
Came home from Nam bought a 69 gto fastest street car I ever owned. It is a wonder I didnt kill myself in that car.
The most fun vehicle was a 86 model grand wagoner ,love that car
Lot of memories .

My first car.. a '72 Mercury Cougar, with a 357 Cleveland. The sequential taillights were kinda cool, seeing them on new Mustangs now.

My absolute all-time favorite is lurking out in my garage right this very minute! 1987 Porsche Carrera M491 coupe... only 62 U.S. spec cars were made in '97, making the car quite rare.
Twenty seven years old, still wearing original paint... looks and drives like it was made yesterday! I love it that air-cooled Porsches are 'free' cars... unless damaged or destroyed, one will never be worth less than it is today; better investment than a crummy CD, and a lot more fun, too!

For sure Rick. That was another car that was always on my wish list. But back in the early 80's those 911's/928's did inspire my Pacer rebuild project though. This Pacer could have been my all time favorite but at the time my key ride was a 450 SEL Mercedes and the very firm ride in the Pacer was a little crude by comparison.

Thank you, Rick
Owning this car is the result of a lengthy search. I actually bought it "sight unseen" (not nearly as reckless as it may seem; I'm pretty well connected in the Porsche community, so I knew exactly what I was buying) ... found it in San Clemente, California and had it shipped to me here in north central Texas. The car has [obviously] been loved from its beginning. It has had a "period correct" conversion from 3.2 to 3.4-liter twin plug. It "goes" as good as it looks. I have entered it in three local car shows, two with nearly 400 cars entered and one with [only] eighty cars or so. I managed two class wins (the big shows) and one overall win (the little show). Frankly, I was surprised at the wins... with so many very, very, very nice examples of "Detroit iron" on display. But a friend reminded me that there is a whole generation of car guys who grew up with a poster of a car that looked just like mine on one of their bedroom walls, and a poster of Farrah Fawcett on another wall. Makes sense to me!
Actually, this is my 4th Porsche... my second-favorite car was my '77 911S shown below as "cover girl" on the local Porsche Club of America monthly magazine. Nice car, street legal race car that I raced in PCA events with some success.

Rob, a great story and I think many of us are gleaming with envy.
PS, there is still a pic of Farrah on the wall in my shop!......... along with the poster of the yellow 32 Ford from the American Graffiti movie. Geee I'm dating myself. LOL

My favorite vehicle was my 1957 BMW 600 sedan. I had more fun with this car than any since.

Mine was blue and white.
As a young man I never considered the blatantly obvious lack of safety features and for sure it wouldn't tow my Scamp but what a blast to drive and a definite attention getter.

My 1967 Land Rover Series IIA - I bought it in 1973 and sold it on 1978 - then tracked it down and bought it back sometime in the 1990's. I'll be completing the frame up restoration this summer.

Rob, great story. Way back in time, my PCA region had a tech session. The local disposal company sponsored a 962 and brought it to the tech session. What a machine!
I still remember just how light that big real wheel and tire weighted. Just incredible! Wonder if Bill Gate's 959 is available -- as if anyone could afford it.
