Here are the workshops & demos that are scheduled for the Oregon Gathering:

“Newbies” by Ian W.
All you need to know now that you have a new (to you) fiberglass trailer.

“Jewelry Making Class” by Jacquie G.
Participants will make butterfly bracelet. Everything necessary for the project will be supplied, plus a pair of matching earrings will come with each kit.
Pre-registering for class is required.

“Wheel Bearing Maintenance” by Eric B.
Come and learn how to check and pack those wheel bearings.

“Dutch Oven Demo” by Linda R.
Learn about everything there is to know about cooking in and care of Dutch ovens. Samples, recipes and tasting included!
This demo is so popular, it will be held at a time other than during the workshop time, so everyone can attend.

“Solar Power for Your Trailer” by Peter H.
Topics for discussion: Parts of a trailer solar system, how to assemble a small, portable solar panel system, and choices you need to make to run your trailer on solar power.

"How to Write Your Trailer's Operating Instructions: Deciding What Comes Next?" by Frederick S.
Create (or update) your own personalized checklist for setting up and breaking camp.

“Wooden Flooring Demo” by Michael G.
Learn to install wooden flooring in a fiberglass trailer.

"Ice Cream in a Bag" by Kathy D.
Kids and Teens' Activity: Come make (and eat) ice cream in a baggie!

“Kids' Olympics” by Lynn & Teresa
Games & Relays for ages 4-16

“Rock Painting” by Lynn & Teresa
Paint a rock to keep - Youth (and the young at heart)

"Making a Wooden Bowl Demo" by Mike P.
Come watch how to use a lathe to turn a wooden bowl. Also, see the beautiful bowls Mike has made. Canceled if raining.

Extras:

“Photo Contest” by Eric S.
Enter your best photograph that has a fiberglass trailer in it. Stay tuned for more information about categories.

“Golf Ball Horseshoe Tournament” by Earl A.
On Thursday afternoon, a pseudo horseshoe tournament will be held using golf balls and Team Dandy rules. Come and have a blast!

"Trailer Weighing" by Frederick S.
Thursday afternoon (only), stop by to weigh your trailer before going to your campsite.

"Book Exchange" by Sharen H.
Drop off a book or two, pick up a book or two.

What other workshops/demos would you like to attend? Are there any you could give? I am looking for people to do demos or lead activities on these things (but not limited to these topics):

Children's Workshops & Activities
  • How to Travel with Children & Grandchildren
  • Making Travel Fun
  • Campfire Games
  • Other events that will involve the children and teens in our group

Nature Hike along the Coast

Kite Flying

Plein Air Watercolor

Would you please help out?

Wow, Nancy, it sounds like tons of workshops already. You are doing your usual wonderful job of getting all this organized. Great job.

I really do need more ideas and more volunteers. We hold workshops 3x (not counting the afternoon for the wonderful Dutch oven demo you do, Linda). So we could use some more choices plus we need some things for kids.

Kids could certainly join us for the Golf Ball Horseshoe Tournament, Thursday afternoon. Just a suggestion - how about a kid teaming up with a parent???

That's a great idea, Earl. I'll put that in the schedule. Thanks!

I am not sure how many kids to expect, but I would be glad to volunteer my husband and myself to sponsor a "summer fun Olympics" for kids: lots of fun events (cracker eating/whistling contest, horseshoes--I found a plastic set so they're not so heavy---paddle ball, hula hoop competition, water balloons, and maybe a giant clothes relay).
We'll have enough activities to get everyone over the age of 4 or 5 involved, and have lots of goofy prizes, so everyone wins something! If we need to do several workshops for the kids, we could also do a rock painting class at another time.

Teresa, you are a life-saver! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Could you please send me an email at ORGathering[at]watsonmountain.com so I can get you in my records and so I can send you a list of the number and ages of kids when we get closer to the date of the Gathering?

I love both ideas, by the way! You might have some adults who want to come to the rock painting class, too. That's a LOT of fun. This is one of my favorite books about painting on rocks.

Nancy, I usually carry along my small wood lathe, and assuming it doesn't rain, I could put on a demo of bowl turning. If it rains, my cast iron lathe would not fare well, so would have to bag it.

If that works for you, let me know,

Mike

I think that would be interesting, Mike. Thank you! Would it work if you worked under someone's canopy if, God forbid, it was drizzly? If not, I could just put (canceled if raining) beside the event.

I am doing the ice cream class for kids and have misplaced the book that had the recipe. I know a couple of people got it from me before. Could someone supply it Please!!!! if not I know the basic ingredients and may have to wing it. Who knows we may get some exotic new frozen dish.

Kathy,
Here is the recipe when I make it with students at school:

For one serving:

Ingredients

* 1/2 cup milk
* 1 tablespoon sugar
* 1/4 teaspoon vanilla

add ingredients to pint size ziplock bag and zip shut.

Place bag into 2 large ziplock bags.

Add ice to fill bag 1/2 full.

Add 6 T salt.

Zip bag shut and shake, turn, toss and mix in the bag.

In about 5 to 10 minutes, you will have yummy ice cream.

Kathy,
I just private emailed you another recipe, do you use ziplock bags or do you use cans for your ice cream recipe? Also, I found several recipes by googling subject.
