Looks like you've got a great project going there, David! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Will you be reinstalling/rebuilding the original interior or doing something different? Trick is keeping weight under control.

I'll look forward to your updates...

Thanks Jon,
I will keep the original layout. I'm not sure about finding the appliances (refrigerator, stove). I will post pictures as I move forward.

Welcome to the forum and the wacky world of MFGTTs. And thanks for renewing one of the nicest of the classic models. We all look forward to reports and pics of your progress.
Any time you need ideas/suggestions/kibitsing/etc., this is definitely the place.

Hi, David, looks a lot like our 1973 but the doorway seems more squared-off at the corners. Same huge fridge vent hole as ours, which we filled in. Ours never had a cargo area off the back, but was closed entirely there. And the front window looks much bigger than ours. So I'm thinking this might be a different year, not a 1973. That only leaves 2 other years! Narrows it down by 33%, maybe.

Do you have a door?

No "uprights." Sure looks spacious without the interior! So did ours. We used the original walls as templates along with the molded ceiling brackets and put the front closet, side closet/fridge area, and galley back where they were originally. We did make our galley a couple inches narrower than before.

You can design yours around whatever appliances you choose, if that's the way you go; or will you be restoring it per vintage authentic? It can be done...we didn't.

VERY interested in how this goes along for you!

Thank you Kaitlyn for the information. I don't have a door. I'm sure this will take time to find or manufacturer. Till next post.

This looks just like our 1973 we redid last year. If you are interested in using original tires or fridge we have those for sale (not exactly sure what condition they are in but I can back to you on that) Looking forward to seeing the finished project ! Best of luck !

According to the research, this might be a 1971.

Hi, David (Docbear2017) -- yes, yours might well be one of the earliest models. Amerigo made other types of camping rigs later on for quite a while, but the FG-16 was only made for a few years. There are photos here on FGRV of different Amerigos. At the top of a page you'll see a light-colored tab, "Manufacturers" -- click on that and you'll find Amerigo under the Legacy brands. Click on it and a series of photos of different years of the FG-16 will come up. I just looked and by golly, yes, yours looks like a 1971, larger front window and squared-off door corners and all! COOL!

Happy fixing, and happy trails!

BEST
Kai

73 Amerigo

Looks great! I am in the process of gutting mine and will post some pictures. I am a little envious as you have a shell and a clean slate. I'm still mired in rotted wood, old insulation and three levels of flooring each in worst shape than the one before. I get some inspiration from seeing others progress and look forward to seeing more of yours. I will post some of mine shortly. Good luck!

Repairing fiberglass cracks and damaged areas

Hello to all.
This week I repaired 6 areas that were cracked, frayed, or separated. I will send pictures tomorrow. I also purchased 4 RV windows. I am in the process of reimbursing the window frames with fiberglass to accept the added weight. Each window weighs about 25 pounds. Till tomorrow.

Thank you 73 Amerigo
I feel your pain. Once you remove all the bad wood and start stripping the floors you will see the light at the end of the tunnel. Please keep us posted on your advance I will be sending pictures of what I did this week.
Thanks
David

David, Christian,

Brown 73 Amerigo Begins a New Life -- Photos!

That's the thread that essentially chronicles our remake from 9-2015 to 7-2016. We were able to take five good trip-s with it last summer and fall, and have five more planned already for this year.

If that's not actually a "link," put it into the bottom line of the "search" drop-down found at the top of the FGRV pages.

We're VERY interested in YOUR redos! Especially fun to watch another Amerigo coming back to life!

BEST
Kai
