I think I can say with a fair degree of certainty that you won't find a 16 foot fiberglass trailer that will be under 2,000 pounds- especially once loaded for the road. Some older trailers (like mine) in the 14-ft-and-change range can be kept under 2,000 pounds by judicious loading.

Nearly all 13 footers can be kept under that weight.

Good luck in your search!

Francesca

FYI

I just checked "Trailer weights in real world". The lightest 16' was 2020 as measured by Fredrick.

check out the weights here

Why have you chosen to limit your 16' trailer to 2000 lbs?

Hi Tammy, to FiberglassRV. We're glad you're here

We're here to help. Maybe if you'd share your requirements, we can point you to brands that will suit your needs. You'd be surprised what you can get in a 13-15' all molded towable. Those couple of feet less can make quite a bit of difference in weight.

I am on the way to Ocala to see a 13ft scamp...I think they are so cute...I just want something that I can pull with my jeep.. A 6cIylinder. I heard that most of the fiberglass campers were real light.. I just want something nice and perferably with a toilet..shower optional... sorry it has taken so long to respond...just found out how ..haha

We have pulled a 13' Scamp with a 1971 Jeepster Commando (V-6) Automatic.
1997 TJ Wrangler I-6 & 5 speed manual.
2007 JK Wrangler (2dr) V-6 Automatic.
I have always had trailer brakes and would not recommend going any heavier than a 13' (loaded under 2000 lbs), as mountain passes are very difficult for these anemic engines. I installed a Diablo program today to try for a few more horses & torque, for a trip to Leadville Colorado the end of this month. Good Luck in your quest.

Tammy, You heading to Ocala FL? Are you going to a dealer? If so be careful, there is a guy here that says a dealer there put eggs on sale with Craigs List but they don't have any. Bait and switch.

Welcome Tammy!
Everyone has their own valid opinions as to trailer choice. Simple as they are, the choice can be complicated. We're very happy with our, then new, 2011 13' Scamp without shower/toilet. We are (mostly) former backpackers and car campers. In our later years (we are 60-somethings) we wanted to camp more easily, comfortably and have the ability to take longer trips since we are now both retired. We tow with a Subaru Legacy sedan.

Most paid campsites, public and private, as well as gas stations have decent toilet facilities. Those that have showers are also decent. Our porta-pottie in the trailer serves well for mid-night runs and for emergencies. The only time we miss a shower and toilet is when we are boon-docking (no facilities). Then we just go into backpacking mode and wash-up with a sponge bath. It's not for everyone, but we do consider our trips "camping" not "glamping" (except for my interior decor, see photo of Southwest motif).

When there is no toilet/shower in the 13' you have a dandy "sofa" that converts to a bunk (sleeps 2 more), has storage compartments and room for the pull-out porta pottie.

I remember many nights dreaming of our trailer choices and the permutations of options. For us, the choice was right AND we enjoyed the trip to and from Minnesota from California to pick it up.

Good luck with your decision!
