Donna you know everything!!! pretty sure you know that there was a parting of the ways with the two partners at Trillium in Calgary and one took off with the Trillium name to the south (may have been about 1998?) and the other stayed in Canada and kept producing the trailer under the name Outback. As the party in the US did not have their own plant they used various sub contracts to have the Trillium trailers produced. For about a year Escape trailers here in Canada was producing the Trillium for them.... put in about 1999 or 2000? they subcontracted the builds out to various places in the US.... some parties here who purchased trailers built in the US in that time frame where not overly happy with the quality of the trailers they purchased during that time ... all better now that Great West Vans owns the right to the name Trillium and is doing the actual builds.

I would expect that the transmission would be the first part to have a problem. What problems requiring a repair or extra maintenance did you have when towing with the Outback?
Thank-You
Mark

Casita

My Casita Freedom Deluxe is for sale. It is in great condition, has new running gear, mostly new appliances, screen door (for New England!) and is ready to roll. I had visited the Casita factory and based on the used campers they had for sale I priced mine at $8000; about $2000 less than they were charging for comparable condition. It turns out that in spite of its great condition, its 1991 age puts people off. So I have just reduced it to $4000. It is in Durham, NH. I90 to 495, I95 to Portsmouth, briefly on rte 16 and rte 4 to Durham. 9 Old Landing Rd. Come soon, before snow! I could send photos but except for the screen door and a rear screened window it looks just like any other Casita. Fred Hochgraf

Mark, I answered your question re repairs but thought better of it as I still have to sell the Outback

Re the transmission. Subaru actually has a transmission cooler in the Outback that is much larger than one would find in other similar sized cross over type vehicles as well as some larger SUV's or at least that was the case with my own Outback according to the independent car reviews I read. It apparently does the job...... but not sure I would be as comfortable about that if I had been towing with one of transmissions that Subaru is now using.

Smile Bought a 2012 Egg!

We bought Mark & Kate's (New Hampshire) Egg trailer yesterday, so no further need to look at a Casita or Trillium. Thanks for the comments

Hi Donna,
I don't know much about the older Trilliums but, I've read many of your posts, so thought I'd pass along what I new about Trillium's current status (Yesterday We bought a 2012 Egg Camper from New Hampshire) Within the last couple of weeks, I spoke to Slade Trimm, a salesman at Great West Vans/Sterling RV/Trillium/Sidekick in Winfield, Alabama several times. He said they are building new Trilliums there now. He acknowledged they had a few quality hiccups within the last couple of years but said they are aiming for their quality to be a notch better than the 2 large main competitors, Scamp and Casita. A feature that I really liked is that most of the new Trilliums come with a solar charging system. At this time there are a few Trilliums at dealers (TN & CA, etc), or, a customer might be able to buy one direct from the factory in Alabama. They have a few leftover 2014 models in Canada, some of which they are importing back to the United States and delivering to their dealers in the US. Tom Young is in charge of Trillium, but I do not know if he is a part owner or manager at this time. The response time for messages and calls was very good. All that said, I still bought the 2/3 year old Egg Camper and towed it home 110 miles yesterday, Black Friday. It's not fancy but it's in good condition, my wife likes it and it will be a good fit for both of us. I did not pass even one camper or RV going or coming back. Guess it's now winter in New England!
Thank-You,
Mark

I will try to put some pictures on here. Maybe before and after some customization. We are planning to take it to Florida and then along the Gulf to Texas & the Southwest this coming Feb/March, (but not in time to make Quartzite, or Death Valley which is one of our future goals) so hope to meet some of you nice folks from the West coast.
