Hello!

We have been given a very old, very poopy gutted boler but oh, the possibilities. The poor little thing needs a complete gut and rebuild. My question is this: This trailer has a large rear hatch which includes the window. Looks factory, same hinges, cut well, factory handle, possibly used as a toy hauler. A PO has sealed it and placed trim at the belly band so it can not be opened. Has anyone ever seen or owned a boler with this feature?? I have looked at all the pics online I can find and none have a rear hatch. Pics coming soon.
I plan to rebuild the frame and running gear, fix the three small holes and re-install an interior. The outside will be painted in a creamy pearl and she will be called "The Pearl". The rear hatch has me stumped though, should I fiberglass over or leave it if it is factory?
Thanks for any thoughts,
Leonie

I have never seen a rear hatch and fail to see the reason for it. Side hatches to access under the dinette benches were available in newer versions of Boler clones but if I understand your description this hatch accesses through the back. Love to see pictures.

I will post pics soon. This is a full door opening upwards. The rear window is in it. Very strange indeed. It is an actual boler, pretty old too. Thinking maybe a '73. The racoon poop was also free. What a mess, but everything is fixable.

Also take pictures from the inside, I would like to see how the opening is supported, this will be a good indication of who and how this was done

And one more.

I think this is a '73 but am not sure how to tell.

Interesting, but definitely NOT original or factory. There is no structure to support the opening, those hinges are not designed to operate vertically, they are only designed to work on the right side of a door with the load pressing down on the brass ball. I am wondering if this was converted as a concession trailer or maybe to carry something.

I am thinking it may have been done like this to show at a big RV show so more people could look inside than would be possible if they actually went in and out by the normal door. A salesman sample, if you will.

I am thinking it was done to make it a toy hauler, maybe dirt bikes or something. Once I get the garbage cleaned out I will have a really good look at the feasability of reglassing the opening to take it back to original.

It should be relativly easy to fix by just re-fiberglassing the hatch into place, just make sure the shape is correct before doing so or ...

You could leave it, you would need to add structure around both the opening and the door itself, change to a propper cargo door type hinge, and probaly add either gas struts or better yet 12V actuators to open the back.
