Hello from Austin, TX

Hi, my name is Peter, and I just registered on this great site after lurking for a while. Thinking about buying a fiberglass trailer next year....preferably a Scamp 13 or 16, as long as it has a toilet/shower....Not too many in our neck of the woods, I'll keep an eye out!

Hello

Hey Peter ,
Welcome to the forum lots of good information and people here. I would check the classifieds here and on the other forums you never know where one will pop up. It probably wouldn't hurt to put a listing in the "want to buy section". If you find a trailer you're interested in be ready to act because they don't tend to hang around long. Good luck with your quest it will be worth it. Peace

Hi, welcome to the fiberglass community, since the Casita factory is in Rice Texas you shouldn't have too long a wait to find a nice used trailer.

What I did over six years ago was run to a wanted ad on Craigslist for a 17 ft Casita, and came up with our 2006 SD 17 ft that way over in the Santa Rosa area, didn't have to compete for one that way. I hope you find one soon.

Thanks David! I realize that Casita is closer, and there are many more here in the South. I also read that Casitas have less interior height than Scamp, and as I am 6.3" and not getting any younger, I think I'd prefer a little more clearance

Just a "heads" up... Casita 13s and 16s and pre-fire Scamp 13s (2006 and earlier) have less than 6' of headroom. Post-fire Scamp 13s, all Scamp 16s, and Casita 17s are taller.

However, although Scamp specs 6'3" headroom in my post-fire 13'er, I only measure about 6'1.5". If it has a roof AC, that also intrudes a bit more. I suspect Scamp 16s and Casita 17s are similar.

The other thing to consider is bed size. All Scamp and Casita beds are about 75" long, limited by the inside width of the trailer*. That will leave you bumping up against the wall on both ends unless you sleep diagonally.
*except Casita Liberty and Independence models

Some tall people find them acceptable, others not so much. Only way to find out is to check out a few in person.

Several of the newer designs are more accommodating for taller folks: Parkliner, Lil Snoozy, EggCamper, and Escape.
