Hello from the Shenandoah

Hello,
I'm currently living in the shenandoah valley and my wife and I are looking for an RV to have our family grow into. We have 2 small children and ideally are looking for something that has a queenish bed for us and enough space for our 2 little ones to sleep in (for now, till they are bigger that is). Also considering using this trailer to live out of during monthly trips i have to make for school...

Current vehicle is a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500.

Hello from the Shenandoah

Welcome to the forum, John.

Few questions... Budget range? Bathroom needed? Other required/desired equipment?

Not many queen beds in molded fiberglass trailers, but there are a few, mostly newer and/larger. Full size gives you are few more options, but some are even smaller.

Best wishes in your RV search!

Still figuring out the budget, there is some flexibility if it's the right deal. (would prefer to buy used, but not decades old).

Wife says a bathroom is a must.

I'm 6'1 and after messing up my back in ambulance boxes that were 5'11 tall must be able to stand up fully in the RV. (that's also part of the need for a queen bed, i'm not a small guy!)

I'm still very early on in my search, but really like the look of the escape 5th wheel. It seems to hit most of my requirements.

Since you have a truck, I recommend Scamp 19, I would lean toward the deluxe version. You could keep it for many years and have room for the four of you.

Oh, 6'1" - that Escape 5th wheel might give you the room you need. Compare the specs, but best find where you could see each one in person. Call the companies and have them direct you to an owner in your area and send you information. You do not have to promise you would buy from them.

The scamp 5th wheel is actually what got my attention 1st...but then i saw a video of a 6' tall guy decidedly not being able to stand up in it.

Escape 5-ers are very nice and would certainly have room for you and your crew. You know there are two- the older single axle and the current, larger tandem?

Both are pretty rare used- you'd pretty much have to search nationally.

The Escape 19' and 21' bumper-pulls might also work for you.

Yeah, I've discovered their rarity. I'm patient and willing to wait for the absolutely right one to come along. I think that of the single vs dual axle the single may be my best bet value wise.

The Escape 19 has a full size queen, not a short rv Queen. I Ďm not sure but I donít think the Escape 21 has a queen.

The 19 bed is a regular queen, 60" wide, 80" long. The 21 has a narrower bed at 54", but it's longer than 80", so it's great for tall people. Another advantage for some is that you can scoot down to exit the bed on the 21, while the 19 is a crawl over. We like the coziness of the bed in the 19, but your needs may be different. As for headroom, you'd be happier with the 21 vs the 19. The best choice among Escapes for tall people imho is the 5.0TA. Huge headroom and the bed is plenty long.
